Christchurch, 27th March: In the virtual quarter-final match played between India and Sout Africa women’s team, today in Hagley Oval. India was defeated by South Africa by 3 wickets. Winning the toss and electing to bat, India scored 274 runs with the loss of 7 wickets. Smriti Mandhana scored the highest 71 off 84 balls, Shafali Verma scored 56 off 46 balls. Indian skipper Mithali Raj scored 68 off 84 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 48 off 57 at the end helped India set a target of 275. Shabnim Ismail was the best performer with the ball in the first Innings, her bowling figures were 10 overs-42 runs-2 wickets. Masabata Klaas got the priced wicket of Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj.

Laura Wolvaardt scored 80 of 79 balls before being bowled by Harmanpreet Kaur. Mignon du Preez scored match-winning 55 off 65 balls. Mignon du Preez was out on the second last ball before it was called a no-ball. It was the second-highest run chase in women’s world cup history.
