Bengaluru, February 2, 2025: Following the success of previous awareness initiatives, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital (RMH) brought a walkathon to the city titled ‘Ramaiah Hope-A-Thon: Let’s Walk United to Win Against Cancer” as part of World Cancer Day awareness drive. The 5K walkathon, flagged off at the Hospital premises and culminating at the Dwaraka Auditorium of Ramaiah Hospital, began at 6 a.m. this Sunday. The event highlighted the hospital’s commitment to cancer awareness and advocating for the importance of early detection. More than 500 participants, including hospital staff, doctors, cancer survivors, and their families, joined the walk.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. SC Nagendra Swamy, President, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, and Dr. K Harish, Director: Ramaiah Institute of Oncosciences cum HOD & Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology. Participants, adorned in lavender t-shirts and caps symbolizing cancer awareness and hope, began the morning with an energizing Zumba session before embarking on the walk through the vibrant M.S. Ramaiah Nagar neighbourhood.

Shri M.R. Jayaram, Chairman, Ramaiah Group, mentioned that “ ‘RAMAIAH HOPE-A-THON’ is a community initiative and will be a feather in the cap of all cancer survivors and their caretakers. The initiative by bringing people together is a testament to the fact that cancer can be defeated and united we win always.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. SC Nagendra Swamy, President, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, shared, “Cancer care is a journey that extends beyond just the treatment. At Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, we are dedicated to not only offering world-class treatment but also fostering community awareness, early detection, and long-term support for patients and their families so that together we win against Cancer”

Dr. K Harish, Director: Ramaiah Institute of Oncosciences cum HOD & Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, emphasized, “Through initiatives like the ‘RAMAIAH HOPE-A-THON’ we aim to bridge the gap in knowledge, awareness and empower individuals to take charge of their health as united we stand resolute in our fight against cancer”

The route of the ‘RAMAIAH HOPE-A-THON’ took over 500+ participants through key landmarks, reinforcing the message of resilience and community-driven action.
