Bengaluru, March 6, 2025 – On March 11th, 2025, Bengaluru’s often-overlooked waste pickers will take center stage in a unique collaboration between Sambhav Foundation and Christ University’s Liberal Arts Department. The event, held at Christ University’s Bannerghatta Road campus, will feature the annual student production “Navrasa,” enhanced with a powerful focus on the waste picker community.
“Navrasa,” a vibrant showcase of music, dance, and theatre exploring nine human emotions, will include a special 15-minute segment dedicated to honoring the contributions of these essential workers. This segment will feature:
- A revealing documentary: Offering an unfiltered look into the lives, challenges, and resilience of waste pickers striving for improved livelihoods.
- A display of artisanal skills: The waste pickers, trained by Sambhav Foundation through the Saamuhika Shakti initiative, have designed and produced the show’s costumes, highlighting their newfound expertise in costume design and manufacturing. This initiative provides them with alternative income opportunities while acknowledging their vital role in the city’s waste management system.
“This event is more than just a performance; it’s a powerful statement about recognizing the dignity and skills of those often marginalized,” said Dr. Gayathri Vasudevan, Chief Impact Officer at Sambhav Foundation. “We are using the ‘Navrasa’ platform to bring visibility to these incredible stories of resilience.”
Dr. Prerana Srimaal, HOD Liberal Arts, added, “For the past four years, ‘Navrasa’ has been a platform for student creativity. This year, we are proud to partner with Sambhav Foundation to create a meaningful experience that fosters social awareness and inclusion.”
The collaboration aims to spark conversations about social justice, skill development, and the importance of recognizing the contributions of all members of the community.
