CIS Student Mahati Wins Top Honors at India’s Largest Independent Music Awards - thisweekindia

Bangalore, November 06, 2025: A remarkable feat of talent and discipline has placed a Canadian International School (CIS) student in the national spotlight. Mahati, a Grade 9 student, took home two prestigious awards at the Clef Music Awards in Mumbai, the country’s largest platform for independent music.

Mahati’s wins include the highly coveted title of Best Artist (Under 18), along with Best Pop Song (Under 18) for her compelling original piece, “Mistress of Clockwork,” created and performed with Disha Reddy. This recognition underscores her talent for original composition and professional-level performance at just 14.

Music has been integral to Mahati’s life since she began training at the age of three. Now navigating her IGCSE curriculum at CIS, she exemplifies how a young artist can successfully integrate creative passions with rigorous academics.

The supportive environment at CIS was a recurring theme in the response to her success. Mahati’s mother, Bindu, expressed gratitude, stating, “I’m grateful that she’s at CIS because there is an opportunity for her to explore different areas of interest… The school and faculty have been extremely supportive, helping her catch up where needed, and allowing her to travel and perform.”

Mr. Shane, the IGCSE Coordinator, celebrated Mahati’s determination: “Preparing for IGCSE while composing, performing, and traveling for music is no easy task, yet she does it with grace and determination… It has been inspiring to watch her carve out a space for herself in both academics and music.”

Mahati’s double victory not only marks a significant personal milestone but also shines a light on the next generation of independent artists emerging in India.
