Bengaluru, December 11, 2025 — Freedom Sunflower Oil, a leading edible oil brand from GEF India, has launched a significant social awareness campaign featuring cricket legend Rahul Dravid. The initiative aims to combat deceptive practices in the market by empowering customers to adopt the ‘Pack Review System (PRS)’—checking the net weight of their 1-liter edible oil pouches.

The campaign highlights a crucial industry standard: a 1-liter pouch of edible oil should weigh approximately 910 grams, as mandated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India. Freedom Sunflower Oil demonstrated this issue by comparing various brands, revealing that while their product consistently met or exceeded the 910 gm mark, some competitors’ pouches, despite looking like 1-liter packs, contained less oil.

Dravid, the brand’s advocate, encouraged consumers to be the “third umpire” against being misled. “As aptly put, ‘Oil should be less in the food and not in the pack,'” he stated. “Only an aware consumer can ensure this by adopting PRS.”

GEF India aims to foster market honesty and transparency. The company encourages simple habits like reading labels, verifying the quantity, and comparing it with the price to protect households from being short-changed.
