BENGALURU, MARCH 11, 2026 – ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint in Karnataka. Through the development of greenfield campuses, new product lines, and specialized training centers, the company is deepening its “local-for-local” strategy to support India’s rapidly growing industrial and infrastructure sectors.
The expansion was marked by two major milestones led by ABB Group CEO Morten Wierod: the groundbreaking of an integrated Motion facility in Peenya and the inauguration of the Nelamangala Campus 2 on Kunigal Road. These investments build on ABB’s 140-year legacy and its long-standing presence in Bengaluru, which serves as a primary global hub for the company’s manufacturing and R&D.
Strengthening Local Manufacturing Capabilities
With this latest phase of growth, ABB will operate three major manufacturing locations in Karnataka, employing over 3,000 people. Sanjeev Sharma, Country Head and Managing Director of ABB India, emphasized that the expansion brings advanced digital and energy-efficient technologies closer to Indian customers, directly supporting the nation’s infrastructure and sustainability goals.
The investment highlights include:
- Peenya Campus Expansion (Motion Business): A new 6,100 sq m. facility will produce energy-efficient motors—including flameproof and smoke ventilation models—alongside low-voltage drives and PLCs. The site also features a digital-led service and training center. Notably, ABB’s installed base of motors and drives has already saved approximately 20 TWh of energy annually—roughly half of Delhi’s yearly consumption.
- Nelamangala Campus 2 (Electrification & Automation): This 16,470 sq m. multi-business hub focuses on smart power technologies and system integration. It will scale the production of power management solutions for data centers tenfold. Currently, ABB systems power over 30% of India’s hyperscale data centers.
- Export and Innovation: The new facilities will produce excitation systems and high-power rectifiers for both domestic use and export to regional markets. Additionally, the site will support specialized solutions for the lube, paint, and pulp industries.
A Commitment to “Make in India”
ABB’s growth in Karnataka is backed by a substantial financial commitment. The company recently announced a $75 million investment for 2026, following a $35 million spend in 2025. These funds are dedicated to expanding R&D and manufacturing for critical segments, creating over 300 new skilled jobs in engineering and research.
By leveraging Karnataka’s rich ecosystem of technology and manufacturing talent, ABB is not only scaling its own operations but also strengthening local supplier networks. This expansion ensures that industries such as renewable energy, metro rail, and metals have access to the precision equipment and digital tools necessary to “outrun” in a competitive global market.
Through these initiatives, ABB continues to bridge the gap between engineering expertise and digitalization, fostering a more sustainable and resource-efficient industrial future for India.
