From steering landmark reforms at FKCCI to forging Karnataka–Osaka partnerships, BCIC’s new President brings to its Golden Jubilee year a rare combination of professional rigour, global outlook and institution-building ambition.
Leadership in a Chamber of Commerce is not merely about representing business. At its most consequential, it is about anticipating change, translating industry concerns into policy, opening doors to new markets and building institutions that continue to deliver long after a presidential term has ended. CA K. Ravi, who has taken charge as President of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), has spent more than three decades doing precisely that.
A distinguished Chartered Accountant, law graduate, corporate adviser and industry advocate, Ravi brings to BCIC an unusually broad professional canvas spanning taxation, auditing, regulatory compliance, corporate strategy, international business and institutional leadership. More importantly, he arrives at a defining moment: BCIC is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of service to industry. For Ravi, therefore, the presidency is not simply another position – it is an opportunity to honour a distinguished legacy while preparing the Chamber for its next era of relevance and influence.
A Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Ravi is Senior Partner at K.R. Kumar & Co. and K. Ravi & Associates, Chartered Accountants, Bengaluru, besides serving as Director of VR e-Biz Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Over the years, he has advised enterprises on taxation, corporate and regulatory matters, FEMA and FCRA compliance, investment planning and India-entry strategies for overseas companies.
His professional signature is the ability to connect technical expertise with commercial realities. Regulations, in his view, are not abstractions confined to statutes and circulars; they directly influence investment, competitiveness, entrepreneurship and business confidence. This practical understanding – combined with professional integrity and strategic foresight – has earned him considerable respect across business and professional circles.
Ravi’s rise through Karnataka’s Chamber movement has been both sustained and historic. In 2017, he became the first practising Chartered Accountant to be elected President of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) in the institution’s century-long history. Established by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya in 1916, FKCCI had already played a defining role in Karnataka’s industrial development. Ravi’s presidency during 2017–18 added a distinctly contemporary dimension to that legacy.
Before reaching its highest office, he served FKCCI in several leadership capacities, including Chairman of its Central Taxes, International Business, Banking, Finance and Economic Affairs Committees, and subsequently as Vice-President and Senior Vice-President. This progression gave him a close understanding of the concerns confronting enterprises – from access to finance and regulatory uncertainty to global market entry, technology adoption and skills availability.
His FKCCI presidency coincided with the difficult initial phase of the Goods and Services Tax. Ravi responded by positioning the Chamber as a bridge between policy and practice. FKCCI organised workshops, awareness programmes and stakeholder consultations to help businesses navigate the new regime. A dedicated GST Helpdesk was established to address members’ concerns, while a detailed memorandum highlighting industry’s difficulties was submitted to the Union Finance Minister and the GST Council.
His agenda, however, extended well beyond regulatory advocacy. Recognising that the future of enterprise would be shaped by innovation and access to capital, Ravi promoted programmes on crowdfunding, business incubation, innovation financing and MSME growth. Entrepreneurs were connected with industry specialists, angel investors, legal advisers and start-up ecosystem leaders, enabling them to better understand new business models and emerging sources of finance.
One of the most enduring accomplishments of his FKCCI tenure was the acquisition of 1.63 acres at Dobbaspete for a Skill Development Centre – realising the vision of the Federation’s founder, Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Conceived as a future-facing institution, the proposed centre was designed to impart skills in Industry 4.0, information and communication technology, robotics, nanotechnology and other emerging areas. It reflected Ravi’s conviction that industrial growth cannot be sustained without a workforce equipped for technological change.
He also oversaw the establishment of FKCCI’s Agritech Cell, created to bring agriculture, technology, food security and agribusiness closer together. The initiative sought to strengthen the connection between industry and the farming community while encouraging innovation and technology adoption across the agricultural value chain.
Technology was also deployed to transform the Chamber itself. Ravi spearheaded the launch of the FKCCI Digital Portal, inaugurated by Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, significantly improving access to services and strengthening engagement with members. He encouraged study visits to leading manufacturing facilities, including Toyota Kirloskar Motor, giving MSMEs first-hand exposure to automation, lean manufacturing and international best practices.
Under his leadership, FKCCI expanded its work in corporate social responsibility and business excellence. The Federation organised its first CSR Conference and Awards in 2018, bringing together government representatives, business leaders and social-impact organisations. It also hosted Business Excellence Awards and conducted programmes on quality standards, including awareness initiatives on Zero Defect Zero Effect certification and consultant-training programmes in collaboration with the Quality Council of India.
The internationalisation of Karnataka’s businesses has long been one of Ravi’s defining interests. He has led and participated in trade delegations and investment engagements involving Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Canada, Malaysia, Oman and countries across Eastern Europe. At the “Destination Oman” investment forum, conducted under the guidance of Oman’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, an FKCCI delegation explored new opportunities for commercial collaboration. Engagements with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and partnerships with Japanese institutions further strengthened cross-border business networks.
The global recognition accorded to FKCCI during his presidency was symbolised by the APAC 2018 International Chambers of Commerce Award in the Large Chamber Category. The distinction enhanced FKCCI’s international standing and recognised its accelerated adoption of digital technologies, including the effective use of video-conferencing infrastructure for business interaction and global networking.
Ravi’s journey with BCIC has been equally purposeful. During the past five years, he has served as Co-Chair of its Start-up Committee and Chairman of its International Business Committee. His vision led to the opening of a BCIC office in Tokyo, an important institutional foothold in one of Asia’s most technologically advanced economies.
In 2025, he led an 18-member BCIC delegation to Expo 2025 Osaka. On September 10, he represented the Chamber in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Osaka, represented by its Mayor. The partnership seeks to promote MSME collaboration, deepen trade and investment, build manufacturing partnerships and facilitate start-up exchanges between Karnataka and Osaka. It was more than a ceremonial agreement; it represented Ravi’s preferred model of chamber leadership, creating practical, enduring platforms through which businesses can connect and grow.
As Chairman of BCIC’s Golden Jubilee Committee, he also guided the commemorative initiatives marking the Chamber’s 50th year. The Golden Jubilee logo was unveiled by His Highness Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, lending distinction and historical resonance to the milestone.
Ravi’s institutional experience extends beyond FKCCI and BCIC. He has served as President of the Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association, President of Rotary Bangalore Orchards and Governor of the Institute of Internal Auditors–Bangalore Chapter. He has also been associated with the Managing Committees of FICCI and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Together, these roles reflect not only the breadth of his professional network but also a sustained commitment to collective leadership.
Colleagues describe him as dynamic yet unassuming – a man of ideas who carries achievement lightly. His collaborative style, accessibility and personal humility complement a leadership approach grounded in preparation, persistence and measurable outcomes.
Beyond boardrooms and policy forums, Ravi enjoys reading, travelling, golf, sketching and karaoke – interests that reveal a personality as comfortable with creativity as with balance sheets. He is married to Mrs Vani Ravi and is the proud father of two sons, Rahul Karur and Suraj, and grandfather to three grandchildren.
As BCIC enters the next chapter of its institutional journey, its new President brings more than an impressive résumé. He brings a record of converting vision into infrastructure, advocacy into policy engagement and international relationships into platforms for enterprise.
For K. Ravi, a Chamber must be more than the voice of industry. It must also be its bridge to government, its window to the world and its compass for the future.
