SPARSH Hospitals Unveils Horn Don’t Maadi Campaign Ahead of World Heart Day - thisweekindia

BENGALURU, September 21, 2026 — Bengaluru’s traffic may move slowly, but the relentless chorus of honking rarely pauses. From gridlocked signals to bumper-to-bumper standstill traffic, unnecessary honking has become an ingrained part of the city’s daily commute. Ahead of World Heart Day 2026, SPARSH Group of Hospitals has launched ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, a city-wide initiative encouraging motorists to curb habitual honking and address its impact on everyday stress and wellbeing.
The campaign centers around a practical reflection: “Can honking move the traffic? If not, what is all this noise doing to us?” While acknowledging that vehicle horns serve a vital safety purpose, the initiative seeks to discourage excessive honking fueled by impatience and frustration.
Unveiled at a media briefing in Bengaluru, the launch brought together senior leadership and cardiovascular experts from SPARSH Hospitals to examine the connection between road stress, noise pollution, and heart health.
“With ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, we want to turn a familiar Bengaluru experience into a moment of simple awareness,” said Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon of SPARSH Group of Hospitals. “This campaign isn’t about eliminating necessary honking, but encouraging drivers to pause and evaluate whether every honk is truly required. Small behavioral shifts can help foster a calmer, healthier urban environment.”
From a clinical standpoint, sudden loud noises trigger immediate fight-or-flight stress responses, while prolonged exposure to high-decibel environments builds cumulative physiological strain. Over time, chronic stress acts as a key contributing factor to cardiovascular illness.

“An occasional honk isn’t the issue,” explained Dr. (Prof) Ranjan Shetty, Lead Consultant Cardiologist and Group Medical Director at SPARSH Hospitals. “The concern lies in repeated exposure to unnecessary noise. Frequent activation of the body’s stress response contributes to chronic cardiovascular pressure over time.”

To drive widespread adoption, SPARSH Hospitals is rolling out multi-channel community engagements across Bengaluru. Planned activities include interactive traffic polls, street vox pops, public pledge sign-ups, radio broadcasts, and doctor-led awareness sessions. The hospital network will also collaborate with digital content creators under the banner ‘Honk Not Okay Please’.

The primary objective is not to eradicate horn usage entirely, but to denormalize automatic, reactive honking while reinforcing its proper role as a safety warning. Through ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, SPARSH Hospitals aims to transform a daily urban frustration into an impactful conversation surrounding mindful commuting and long-term cardiovascular health.
