10th edition of Tour of Nilgiris (TfN) attracts celebrity cyclists; TfN 2017 to be flagged off

Bengaluru, December 8, 2017: The 10th edition of Tour of Nilgiris (TfN), the annual tour of RideACycle Foundation which has attracted celebrity cyclists to pedal the grand tour, will be flagged off on December 10, 2017 from Radisson Blu Atria, Bengaluru at 6:30 a.m. The grand tour will witness 128 cyclists pedal more than 1000 kms across Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu, between December 10 and 17, 2017. Starting from Bengaluru the cyclists will pedal through Mysuru, Madikeri, Sultan Bathery, Udhagamandalam (Ooty) and finish it by pedaling back to Mysore.

Addressing apress conference here today, Satish Belawadi, Tour Director, TfN 2017, said,“In the 10th edition we are witnessing the largest cycling contingentparticipation of 128 cyclists and what is more satisfying is that the grandtour has attracted top ranking cyclists who have impressive cycling credentialsto their name. What is revealing of this grand tour is that it has proved to bea stepping stone and launch pad for budding talent - Naveen John and KiranKumar Raju have already proved their mettle at the national level.”

Thecelebrity cyclists to pedal TfN 2017 include Alexi Grewal – an Indian Americanto win an Olympic Gold Medal in road cycling in 1984; Lt. Col. Dr. SrinivasGokulnath, India’s first RAAM finisher (Race Across America – 5000 kms in 11days 18 hours); Naveen John, with 3x National ITT Championships and a nationalRoad Race championship under his belt, he is probably the finest cyclist comingout of India; and Kiran Kumar Raju, National MTB Championship Winner – 2015& 2016. The winners at TfN 2017 will earn themselves the top range ofFirefox bikes.

TfN 2017will witness 4 charity riders riding to support the social initiatives dear tothem. While, Rajanikanth Puttabuddi will be the charity rider for KennethAnderson Nature Society (This organization focusses on wildlife conservation inthe Melagiri forest region spanning the Hosur and Dharmapuri Forest Divisionsof Tamil Nadu); Shankar Jayaraman will raise funds for Sita Bhateja SpecialityHospital (The aim is to make spine surgery affordable and accessible toeveryone especially the underprivileged); and Vivek Radhakrishnan &Rajkumar Khot will pedal for Iksha Foundation (a charitable trust focusing onRetinoblastoma (eye cancer).

AlexiGrewal, Olympic Gold Medallist, said "For ten years I have looked forwardto riding my bicycle in India and I am so incredibly satisfied I can join theTour of Nilgiris 2017 in its tenth anniversary. It will be a ride of a lifetime for me, and I will treasure the experience for a lifetime." Likewise,Lt. Col. Dr. Srinivas Gokulnath, said, “"Cycling is more than a hobby forme that not only provides motivation but also helps me to maintain fitness andstay relaxed.”

Of the 128cyclists set to pedal TfN 2017, 120 are men, while 8 are women. Further, 110cyclists are from different parts of India, while 18 are from overseas and hailfrom The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, USA and Russia.Profile of the cyclists pedaling TfN 2017, reveal that 65 per cent of thecyclists are senior and middle management professionals from different industrydomains.
