57th Annual Conference of The Indian Association of Physiotherapists inaugurated

Bengaluru, February 2, 2019: The 57th Annual conference of Indian Association of Physiotherapists - ‘IAPCONBangalore 2019’ was inaugurated here today by Shri. U T Khader, Minister for Urban Development, Government of Karnataka. Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President, Thumbay Group, UAE, was the chief guest and delivered the key note address. Dr. S Sacchidananda, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS was the Guest of Honor.

The two days’ event has attracted around 5,000 delegates from all over the world, which only reiterates how Physiotherapy has become an integral part of rehabilitation services.

The theme of ‘IAPCONBangalore 2019’ - “LET US MOVE THE PHYSIO WAY”, essentially stresses the need to be physically active, as increasingly it is being realized that physical activity is a direct indication of good heath, both physically and psychologically. The scientific sessions have been thoughtfully planned so as to update the physiotherapists community with contemporary techniques and innovative approaches being practiced globally. Presence of several International experts is expected to provide a major fillip to the conference. 

According to Dr. U.T. Ifthikar Ali, Organizing Chairman, ‘IAPCONBangalore 2019’ and Dr. A. Suresh Babu Reddy, PhD, Organizing Secretary, ‘IAPCONBangalore 2019’, many advanced hands on approaches / techniques are being practiced globally and it becomes expensive for the physiotherapy professionals to go overseas to master these. Against this backdrop, sessions at the event by eminent international professionals and also training of Indian professionals in various colleges and hospitals in Bengaluru and Mangaluru would help the physiotherapy professionals to update themselves. 

Commenting on the new procedures, they pointed out, hands on approach based on clinical applications of EMG biofeedback for rehabilitation in various patients by Dr. GARY KRASILOVSKY from the US will be an innovative one. This approach is applied in various conditions like stroke, head injury and sports injuries to ascertain the accuracy / performance of muscles and strength of muscles.

Likewise, Matrix Rhythem therapy by Dr. ULRICH G RANDOL. PT from GERMANY, applied in preparing skeletal muscles for training using rhythm therapy in athletes/sports for strength training, endurance training and flexibility to prevent the damage will also be very novel.

Red flags in physiotherapy practice by Dr. MURALI RAJ RAJAN. PT UK, explains the dangers in physiotherapy practice like extreme care to be taken in conditions – chronic osteoporosis, acute injuries, conditions to be treated with differential diagnosis and patient response to the treatment.

Evidence based practice in physiotherapy, role of clinical practice guidelines by Dr. LITTY MATHEW SHIBUT. PT BEHRAIN, will dwell on how it is always better to have evidence based practice and research oriented methodology for successful treatment in conditions like sports injuries, cerebral palsy, obstetrics & gynecology, neurological condition, any soft tissue manipulation, mobilization, therapeutic modalities, ICU management & documentation. 

Apart from international speakers there are 30 renowned speakers from all over India who will share their new approach / concept based on research and evidence based practices of shoulder rehabilitation, rehabilitation of ankle injuries, childhood obesity, aerobic exercise prescription in children with special needs, role of exercises in women’s health, pain management taping, dry needling, sports rehabilitation, core stability in sports physiotherapy.
