5K RUN/2K WALK -“Be the Agent of Change

Bengaluru 14th December 2017. 5K RUN/2K WALK -“Be the Agent of Change” WITH A VISION OF TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES This event is organised to mark UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) to create awareness and opportunities for people with disabilities thereby create an inclusive society. Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually on December 3rd around the world. The UN is promoting this year’s event with the title: “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”. The theme focuses on the enabling conditions that bring about transformative changes towards inclusive society for PWDs.

CheshireDisability Trust started its core project “Livelihood Resource Centre” in theyear 2008, with a vision of creating a societyin which every disabled person can enjoy their rights and has the opportunityto fulfill their potential.  Our missionis to enable people to improve their quality of life and to campaign for theremoval of the barriers which hinder them. We do this by providing livelihoodopportunities to persons with disabilities. The Livelihood Training Centreworks for people with disabilities from vulnerable sections of society;provides employability training and employment opportunities. The Trust alsoensures to facilitate employers in its reach towards providing equalopportunity to the persons with disabilities and also sees to providing workplace solutions and reasonableaccommodation to create disabled friendlyenvironment both to the employer and to the candidates. CDT has a strongnetwork with training Institutions, Government bodies, corporate and NGOs.

We are a member of the Leonard CheshireDisability Global Alliance, a worldwide organization with affiliation in 55countries. 

To mark IDPD –Cheshire Disability Trust is organizing a 5K Run and 2K walk

Toensure that this event is NOT JUST A RUN but to be an Action-Packed Run, wehave marked the final 200 meters to be as “Disability Experience Zone”. Theparticipants can get to experience the life of people with disabilities for afew minutes. Besides, every few meters –we will display sign language words for the participants to learn and at theend of the run, they can showcase their sign language proficiency.

Where – Cubbon Park, Aquariumgate

What time – 7 AM

Number of people attending –1200+ 

Target group – 1200 persons including 300 personswith disabilities. People from all sectors of the society and all phases oflife are going to be a part of this event. We will have corporates, collegestudents, school children, senior citizens, PWDs, parents of PWDs participatingin the event.

Expected outcome – 1200 persons will besensitized on disability. They can spread the acquired knowledge and awarenessin their circle and make this place a better place to live in for everyone.These 1000 people will be agents of change in transforming communities

GirishR Gowda- International kickboxing champion – first Indian to bring a medal inWORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in ring sports,

JoyappaAchaiah- a social activist and an entrepreneur.

VishwasK.S, 26 year old swimmer, who lost both his hands in a tragic accident when hewas 10 years old. He recently won three medals at the 2016 Speedo Can AmPara-swimming Championships held in Canada. He has won three silver medals atthe para-swimming competition held in Belagavi also.
