7th edition of India International Coffee Festival kick-starts today in Namma Bengaluru

Bengaluru, January 17, 2018: The7th edition of India International Coffee Festival 2018kickstarted with hordes of visitors thronging the venue with gusto at The LalitAshok, Bengaluru. With infectious enthusiasm and bright spirits in the air, theevent was officially inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Minister forAgriculture, Government of Karnataka, Shri Krishna Byre Gowda and Hon’bleMinister for Social Welfare and Backward Classes Welfare Department, Governmentof Karnataka, Shri H. Anjaneya.
The four-day long festival themed, ‘Expressyourself with Coffee’ jointly organized by the IndiaCoffee Trust and the Coffee Board of India kickstarted with skill-building workshops on Modern Profile Roastingin Shop Roasters led by Mr. Marcel Knitter, Trainer, ProbatTraining Center, Germany; Profile Roasting of Single Estate Coffees ledby Dr. Stefan Schenker, Head of Business Unit-Coffee, Buhler AG,Switzerland and Assessment of Roasting loss and Cupping quality ledby Mr. Fernando Fernandes, M/s, Lilla Roasters, Brazil.
The inaugural day witnessed the presence of thousandsof trade visitors including roasters, retailer’s distributors and cafe ownersalong with national and international coffee industry, policy makers, industrycaptains, exporters, manufacturers and host of other luminaries associated withthe coffee industry.
Special Workshops were conducted on CoffeeBrewing, extracting a perfect cup of espresso by Mr. MichalisDimitrakopoulos; Different types of Bunn Equipment using Indian andInternational Coffees by Mr. Simon Green, European Technical Manager,M/s. Bunn UK; and The Art of Making a perfect cup of Cappuccino withLatte Art by Mr. Arnold Thitiprasert, World Renowned Latte ArtChampion 2017.
Other dignitaries present during the inaugurationincluded Mr. Jose Dauster Sette, Executive Director,International Coffee Organisation, Shri Srivatsa Krishna, IAS, Chief ExecutiveOfficer and Secretary, Coffee Board of India, Shri SudhirSitapati, Executive Director, Refreshments, Hindustan Unilever Ltd,Shri Anil Kumar Bhandari, President, India Coffee Trust and Mrs. SunaliniMenon, CEO, Coffee Lab Limited Trustee, India Coffee Trust.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Krishna ByreGowda, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, said, “Coffeeis one of the most appreciated beverages in the world. Since Karnataka is thelargest coffee growing state producing 71% of coffee in the Indian coffeeindustry, it is a great opportunity for the coffee fraternity to get associatedwith India International Coffee Festival to promote their brand, showcase newtechnologies and to grow distribution network with the biggest firms incoffee.”
Further Shri Sudhir Sitapati, ExecutiveDirector – Refreshments, Hindustan Unilever Limited, said, “Iam really excited to be a part of the India International CoffeeFestival 2018. The coffee industry in Karnataka employs large number of workersacross the state. Having the policy makers, industry bodies and corporates willhelp increase domestic consumption of coffee in India”.
“The main objective of coffee festival this yearis to capture the changes that are taking place in the Coffee Sector and todiscuss on issues such as Broader Focus on the Coffee Industry, Issues Faced bythe Growers, Grower to the consumer, Start-ups for Coffee eco-system and muchmore,” said Shri. The event is projecting Coffee Tourism not just toencourage and benefit the coffee industry and the small farmers associated withit, but also bring much needed impetus to the tourism in the state.
Festival – goers will enjoy a host of workshops andother activities planned during this 4-day long event. The key highlight ofthis year’s festival is the coffee themed quiz that is aimed to test the coffeeknowledge of coffee enthusiasts, quizzing aficionados and the general public.The event also features activities like a three day Exclusive Coffee tour willalso be organized by Tata Plantation trails and will have everything for acurious Coffee enthusiast as well as a for a Connoisseur of fine taste.

The India Coffee Trust (ICT) is a not-for-profitorganization formed by various stakeholders of the Indian Coffee Industry. Theprimary mandate of ICT is to promote coffee consumption in India and togenerally promote the coffee industry. The idea of the trust originated in 2008and the operations formally commenced in 2011.
