Air India SATS completes ten years of service at Kempegowda International Airport
Captures 56% market share in international flight handling and 54% market share in international cargo handling in its decade long service
Bengaluru, 12June, 2018: AirIndia SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd. (AISATS), India’s premier airportservices company, has completed ten years of providing airport services at theKempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. In the last decade, AISATS hasplayed a significant role in adopting and implementing severaltechnological and digital innovations to its ground and cargo handlingoperations, thereby bolstering the status of Kempegowda International Airportas the Gateway to South India.
AISATS isthe only airport service company at Kempegowda International Airport thatprovides comprehensive ground and cargo handling services, and serves seventeeninternational and five domestic airlines. Since the inception at Bengaluru,AISATS has handled 125,867 flights and 1,094,284 tonnes of cargo. Apartfrom providing services to scheduled passenger and cargo airlines, AISATS alsospecializes in handling charter flights.
In additionto operating the largest Air Freight Terminal at Kempegowda InternationalAirport with a capacity to handle 210,000 tons of cargo per annum, AISATS hasalso established India’s first integrated on-airport perishable cargohandling centre, the AISATS COOLPORT, with a capacity to handle 40,000tons of perishable cargo per annum. With in-house facilities of dedicated X-Raymachines, a Drug-Controller Lab Testing facility, Plant-QuarantineInspection & Certifications, and a Customs Clearance facility, AISATSCOOLPORT offers one-stop solution for perishable cargo handling and also helpsin reducing cargo dwell time considerably. Since the inauguration of theAISATS COOLPORT in October 2016, till date, it has handled 28,000 metrictonnes of perishable cargo (export and import).
In the last decade, AISATS has adopted numerous stepsto upgrade and integrate its services with technological advancements in orderto keep pace with the fast-track cargo movements across domestic andinternational boundaries. These innovations have not only helped in bringingservice efficiency to AISATS’ operations but have also helped the company toestablish and maintain a culture of sustainability and environmentalresponsibility. Some examples of these technological innovations andadvancements are the use of Automatic Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and a VeryNarrow Aisle (VNA) High Rise Racking system, biodieseloperated forklifts to reduce carbon footprints and IATA e-freight compliance forpaper-less cargo movement. AISATS has also indigenously developed Cool Trolliesto minimise the temperature excursions while transporting temperature sensitivecargo between the warehouse and the aircraft. Moreover, AISATS has alsolaunched the Cargo Tracking Mobile App to increase efficiency of the supply chainby relaying relevant information of cargo shipments to various keystakeholders. AISATS is currently in the testing phase of incorporating RadioFrequency Identification (RFID) technology within its operations in order totrack cargo movements automatically.
AISATS hasearned various certifications over the past decade, such as ISAGO (IATA SafetyAudit of Ground Operations), ISO-9001:2008 (International StandardOrganisation), TAPA (Transport Asset Protection Association), GDP (GoodDistribution Practices), and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical ControlPoints), and Air Cargo Regulated Agent (RA) by the Bureau of CivilAviation Security (BCAS). These certifications recognize AISATS’commitment and efforts towards applying world-class ground and cargo handlingstandards at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
