Airtel joins ‘Seamless Alliance’ to bring uninterrupted In-Flight Connectivity to Customers

Hyderabad, February 26, 2018 – Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”) today said that it has joined the ‘Seamless Alliance’–which will usher in a new era of open innovation for mobile operators and airlines by empowering mobile operators to extend their services into airline cabins.

Memberoperators, including Airtel, will be able to continuously provide theircustomers - via satellite technology - the same high speed, low latencyconnectivity from ground, to air and back again. It will also significantlyreduce costs for everyone involved while creating a smooth, positiveuser-experience. 

Theformation of ‘Seamless Alliance’ was announced today in Barcelona. Otherfounding members include OneWeb, Airbus, Delta and Sprint.  The globalalliance – which aims to attract additional industry operators beyond the fivefounding members – will eliminate the immense costs and hurdles commonlyassociated with acquisition, installation, and operation of data accessinfrastructure by streamlining system integration and certification, providing openspecifications for interoperability, increasing accessibility for passengers,and enabling simple and integrated billing.

Airtel isthe third largest mobile operator in the world with operations in 16 countriesacross Asia and Africa.
