Citizens fight for RERA
May 07, 2017, Bengaluru: Namma Bengaluru Foundation and Fight for RERA staged a protest at Puttanna Chetty Town Hall demanding that the State government implement the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 at the earliest.
ThirteenStates have already implemented RERA Act however, Karnataka Government has notspecified any timeline on implementation of the Act in the State.
The protestsaw participation from activists, NGOs and apartment owners.
MP RajeevChandrasekhar,Founder Trustee, Namma Bengaluru Foundation said, “I represent Karnataka as aMP and hence it is my duty to safeguard the interest of the citizens ofKarnataka. This fight is about Consumer Right and Builder’s Accountability.Through notifying RERA, Home buyers will get their rights and builders will beheld accountable. I strongly support consumer rights and urge Chief Minister ofKarnataka to issues RERA rules without any further delay and without dilutinglaw! If there is any delay or dilution in RERA Karnataka rules, homebuyerssupported by me will go to court.”
SridharPabbisetty, CEO,Namma Bengaluru Foundation Said, “Inspite of repeated assurance from the stategovernment that the May 1st deadline will not be missed and RERA rules will notbe diluted, we are extremely agitated that the RERA rules have not yet beennotified. Even two weeks ago we met Kapil Mohan, Principal Secretary forhousing, Government of Karnataka, to safeguard the interest of the home buyers,we fear that this assurance will also not be met.”
MSShankar, Convener,Fight for RERA – Karnataka Chapter said, “Fight for RERA Karnataka Chapterrequesting the Government of Karnataka to come out with speedy undiluted RERARules to protect the suffering homebuyers and appoint Shri. Shambu Dayal Meena- Retired Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka as Regulatory Authorityto take forward implementation of RERA in Karnataka. We also thank MP RajeevChandrasekhar for supporting our fight to implement undiluted RERA inKarnataka.”
