Greaves Cotton signs up with Piaggio Vehicles to develop a “new generation of Powertrain App.
Mumbai, 03rd January 2018: Greaves Cotton Limited & Piaggio Vehicles, a leading automotive OEM in 2W, 3W and 4W segment, who took pioneering efforts in establishing the last mile connectivity in India, have signed an agreement to develop a new generation of powertrain solutions meeting BS-VI norms using Diesel & Alternate Fuel in the clean energy space
Piaggiostarted their journey with Greaves Cotton Limited in 1998-1999 & sincethen, this relationship has only grown between the two companies establishingeconomical last mile transportation solution for Indian urban & semi-urbanmarkets. Greaves has been a close partner with the Italian major, working andcontributing towards their growth. The two-decade long story of success ofGreaves engines having sold more than 5 million engines in this period hasgrown with the trust, dependency & confidence on Greaves products comingfrom technology, reliability, class leading cost of ownership & superioron-street performance.
Greaves hasbeen producing their automotive engines from their plants at Aurangabad andRanipet (Chennai) with their R&D centers based out of Aurangabad &Pune. They have been successfully powering the last mile transportationsegment, popularly known as the three-wheeler and the micro-truck segment below1000kg. Greaves has been constantly innovating their products to ensuresuperior total cost of ownership solutions keeping in mind the end customers’affordability and need of the consumer while carrying passengers and cargotypical to Indian needs.
The3-wheeler segment has started showing growth in the third quarter of thecurrent financial year & Greaves has been participating in the same withtheir robust single cylinder diesel engine technology & CNG engines in theCNG dominant markets. Our strategic tie-up with California-based Pinnacle Technology foropposed piston engines has shown impressive initial first-cut results for CNGengines in BS-VI regime & hopefully able to revolutionize the market byreducing substantial fuel cost & total cost of ownership, bringing smilesto lakhs of owners of 3-wheelers for better earnings & change their qualityof life.”
Greaves soldmore than 300,000 automotive engines in financial year 2016-17 beforesuccessfully transiting to BS-IV compliant engines from 1-April-2017. Greavesengines are also productively powering the non-automotive segment like Marineboats, Construction equipment and Farm equipment amongst other applications.
The strong servicenetwork of more than 3,500 retail outlets supplying spare parts for theseengines backed up by 9,000 trained technicians across the country makes Greavesservice available within a 50km radius in most parts of the country.
