Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation brings Back Mobility to People
Mega Limb Camp provides differently abled people access to prosthetic limbs and calipers
Bengaluru, March 16, 2020: Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation, in association with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS – also popularly known as Jaipur Foot) and Rotary International, has brought back mobility to many people through an outreach program to enable differently abled people. Around 300 people benefitted from this camp thus far in Karnataka.
The outreach program through the camp provided free screening and customized fitments that have enabled the beneficiaries to overcome their physical challenges and given a fresh start to their lives and dreams. According to Mr. Rajesh Krishnamurthy, Business Director-Consumer Products Division, The Himalaya Drug Company, “Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation is committed to enabling and empowering people living with physical disabilities. We realized that differently abled people in non-metros were either unaware of artificial limbs or could not afford them at all, which led us to work with Jaipur Foot and Rotary to organize this Mega Limb Camp. The camp brought world-class fitments right to the doorstep of beneficiaries. This is in line with our vision is to bring wellness and happiness to people”.
Mr. Anil Surana, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), pointed out, “We have pioneered the concept of artificial limbs in the country and have been providing superior quality, flexible, and durable artificial limbs to all those in need. Typically, these limbs cost anywhere between Rs. 10,000 to 10 lakhs, but with our own manufacturing facility and the support of organizations like Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation, we are glad that we have an opportunity to serve more people who are in dire need of these fitments, in a cost-effective manner”.
Commenting on this initiative, Rtn D Mohan, Rotary Club of Hassan Hoysala, said, “Rotary International aims to unite and take collaborative action to create long-lasting impact amongst people and our communities to make the world a better place to live in. This initiative is a reflection of our commitment. We are happy to be able to contribute to people in some way and bring about a positive difference, so that they can lead healthier and happier lives”.
Further, Mr. Rajesh Krishnamurthy revealed as part of the effort to empower the beneficiaries to lead a self-sufficient life, Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation is working with Jaipur Foot to provide employment to the beneficiaries. Explaining the process, he pointed out, “As an organization that believes in touching lives meaningfully, we are working with Jaipur Foot to impart vocational training to beneficiaries who can then look at having sustainable livelihoods”.
Through Mega Limb Camps, beneficiaries will receive assistance, including artificial limbs, calipers, and other aids and appliances, through which they will be able to make use of their limbs freely, on the same day, post treatment. The artificial limbs provided by BMVSS (Jaipur Foot) are famous all over the world for their quality and longevity. With these limbs, a below knee amputee can walk on uneven ground, run, climb a tree, or a mountain, sit cross-legged, crouch, ride a cycle, drive a car, and swim.
Himalaya Fresh Start Foundation is committed to bringing wellness and happiness to differently abled people to unleash their potential and lead their lives independently with dignity.
