March 18, 2018, Hyderabad: IIIT-Hyderabad has extended the deadline to Under Graduate admissions to 26 March 2018. It has also introduced significant changes to its undergraduate admission process to ensure students with research aptitude are selected for the dual degree programmes and a Special channel is opened for students in the CBSE UDAAN scheme.

 TheKey changes are

- Theextension of UGEE (undergraduate engineering entrance examination) mode ofadmission to all dual degree programs (ECD, CSD, CNDand CLD) followed by aninterview, both conducted by IIIT-H. 

-Introduction of a Special Channel of Admission (SPEC) for B.Tech(ECE/CSE) programmes. This is open to students who have completed theequivalent of Class 12, and have qualified for the UDAAN scheme of CBSE orare in an integrated six-year 12th + B.Tech program after 10th class.

 Admission for Olympiad mode continuesas in previous years.  They have to apply via UGEE. Selection fortraining in Informatics, Science, Mathematics and Linguistics to representIndia in the International Olympiads during class XI and/or XII is requiredunder this mode. 

 - Admissionsto4-year BTech programs in ECE and CSE will continue to be through JEE Mains asusual.

 Thereis also a Lateral Entry option for ECD and CSD dual degree programmes underwhich students can shift to IIIT-H after two years in another engineering college,and can get both BTech and MS by Research degrees in another 4 years. This is agreat program for those interested in research-based education.

 Speaking on changes in the admission process, ProfJayanthi Sivaswamy, Dean, Academics, IIIT-H said, “The rationale behind thisnew admission process was to attract students with greater research aptitudeand interest and to identify students with extraordinary talent or background.The institute is also enhancing providing need-based financial assistance thisyear”.
