IIIT-HYDERABAD’S R&D SHOWCASE 2018 DRAWS HUGE INTEREST
25 February 2018, Hyderabad: IIIT-Hyderabad’s annual R&D showcase this weekend was a big draw. The 2-day event sawthe general public interacting with faculty and students to understand their work in more tangible forms through demos, prototypes and presentations in keeping with the institute’s endeavour to promote applied research that benefits society.
Currently in its17th edition, the event has grown from strength year–on-year and this year saw3,000 eager visitors that included industry, academia, media and investorsattend the various events during the weekend showcase.
In parallel to the showcase, were several interesting talks. Theseincluded a fireside chat on smart cities with Mrs. Karuna Gopal - President,Foundation for Futuristic Cities, Hyderabad, who spoke about how technology anda focus on empathy through technology can enhance the quality of life in smartcities. There were also sessions explaining the latesttrends in Data Sciences and Cognitive Sciences.
Samir Sarkar, Producer and Managing Director, Magic Hour Films, who wasthe keynote speaker for Sunday’s the session on Entertainment and Technologyshared is views on technology from the perspective of a producer and theinterrelationship between technology and creativity. Professors and researchersfrom IIIT Hyderabad also spoke about the role of technology in films, gaming,sports and music.
There were a total of 280 posters, demos and models for visitors tobrowse through. Speaking onthe success of R&D Showcase 2018, Prof Vasudeva Varma, Dean, Research said,“It was encouraging to see visitors’ interest in the technologies developed atIIIT Hyderabad. We’re looking forward to continued interaction with ourindustry and research partners and to see our technologies impact the society”.
