Karnataka to present a case study on providing a favourable ecosystem for women entrepreneurs

Bengaluru, 10th November 2017 : The State of Karnataka has been invited to present a case study on being a torchbearer in creating a conducive ecosystem for women entrepreneurs in the state, in ThinkBig 2017 - Asia’s largest women entrepreneurship and economic empowerment platform, to be held in Gurugram, Haryana on Monday, 13th November, 2017. ThinkBig 2017 is the 5thedition of the summit, following an immensely successful ThinkBig 2016 that took place in Bengaluru last year. Under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Siddaramaiah, Karnataka today is among the fastest growing economies in the country and stands at the top spot in the country as the most attractive investment destination. In ThinkBig 2017, Karnataka is going to present some of the path-breaking steps that the state government has taken in the recent past to boost business atmosphere alongside exclusive women’s parks and special incentives to generate and provide more entrepreneurial opportunities to the women and also to scale up existing businesses.

Ms. K. Ratna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary, Government ofKarnataka, who is going to representthe state Government of Karnataka in the Summit, said, “Karnatakaas a state has been one of the forerunners in providing a favorable ecosystemfor women entrepreneurs and being the IT hub of the country, Bangalore has beenan epicenter for start-ups, and given rise to many ventures started by womenentrepreneurs. With key government initiatives towards making the ecosystemmore encouraging for women entrepreneurs we look forward to seeing more andmore women entrepreneurs coming up in the days to come.”


Ms. K. Ratna Prabha alsomentioned the remarkable Mahila Uddhyama Vahini initiative and the SpecialWomen’s Tech Parks coming up in Hubli, Dharwad, Mysore, Bellary, and Gulbargathat will take the cause of women forward. The Karnataka government’sinitiatives for women entrepreneurs is promoting the cause of women empowermentby inculcating a culture of entrepreneurship and is enabling to shape theirideas into workable models of business. Women empowerment helps building theirconfidence level to face the world and to achieve their targets. “Recently 10 crores of government funding was given for womenentrepreneurs through the Start-Up Cell. The Karnataka Government is trying toformulate a policy where a part of the Government’s procurement of products andservices can be given to startups. Although there are various provisions by thegovernment for SMEs, there is a need to recognize and support the womenentrepreneurs.” She added.


Last year, ThinkBig2016 took place at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC),Bengaluru, TTC and WEConnect international hosted over 2,000 women delegatesand 1,973 business visitors from 15 countries and 19 Indian states. Forty-fivewomen’s and business associations, thirty-five banks, fifty-four companies,three hundred industry leaders and over four hundred Women-Owned Businessescame together in Bengaluru, India, to seed the creation of an inclusiveecosystem focused on women entrepreneurs.The 2017 edition ofthe summit will be a part of the run-up to the 7th edition of GlobalEntrepreneurship Summit (GES) in 2017, ‘Road to GES’ series. The summit willemploy a tri-sector approach by connecting women entrepreneurs, companies andgovernment on the same platform, to nurture an inclusive entrepreneurialecosystem for women owned businesses and will help all the stakeholders to havemeaningful interactions with each other. ThinkBig 2017 will enable 2,000dynamic participants to engage in one whole day of inspiring and interactivesessions.


The summit aims atconnecting with Indian and Global Corporations, Medium & Small Businessesto open doors to future trade and collaboration, by bringing together womenentrepreneurs, corporate buyers, government, industry mentors, women industryassociations, investors and media to inspire and empower women entrepreneurs byconnecting them with Big and Small corporate.The summit will behosted by Thinkthrough Consulting(TTC) in partnership with WEConnect International. TTC, in partnership with WEConnectInternational, is at the forefront of fostering women entrepreneurship andwomen’s economic empowerment in India and is actively promoting supplierdiversity for women in 21 countries worldwide.
