Kengal Shreepada Renu to be given Congress Ticket from North Bangalore ?
Bangalore, 11 March 2019: The name of Kengal Shreepada Renu, Grandson of Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the most revered politician in Karnataka has been doing the rounds among party workers as their suggestion for the Congress candidate in the Bangalore North Parliamentary Constituency. Shreepada Renu is a former Ranji Cricketer and an avid golfer who had earlier contested as the congress candidate from Malleshwaram during the 2018 Legislative elections.
Kengal Shreepada Renu is a spokesperson for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and is seen as a strong contender for the Vokkaliga dominated constituency of Bangalore North. Party insiders reveal that there has been a strong voice within the party to field an able and powerful candidate to confront the sitting MP and former Chief Minister – Sadananda Gowda.
While there are rumors that the Congress is expected to use North Bangalore as a pawn to negotiate with the alliance, the congress workers are pushing the party high command to field a strong Congress candidate from this constituency.
It should be noted that Congress and JDS coalition has the support of 7 out of the 8 MLA’s from the constituency of North Bangalore. This is said to be the biggest factor that will play in favor of the congress in the upcoming elections.
Karnataka will go to polls on April 18 and April 23, the Election Commission announced while revealing the dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections on Sunday. Polls will be held across the state in a two phases with 14 constitiencies going to the polls on April 18 and 14 constituencies on April 23. The counting of ballots for the Parliamentary Election will take place on May 23.
