Lions Club International celebrating its 100th Year
Bangalore, July 19: World’s largest social service organisation Lions Club International is celebrating completion of 100 years.
TheLions international has over 1.4 million members in over 46000 clubs in morethan 210 countries. TAs a service membership organisation, Lions ClubInternational was founded in United States on June 7, 1917 by a Chicagobusinessmen Melvin Jones. The Club has been engaging itself with variousservices for the welfare mankind throughout the World.Anumber of such programmes, in addition to several new ones, will be continuedto mark centenary celebrations of Lions Club International. Bangalore too ishosting a gala programme to celebrate its milestone.LionsClub district 317A is hosting this programme on July 21, 2017 in Palace Groundsin Bangalore. Over 120 Lions Club which are active in Bengaluru, Mysuru,Ramanagara, Mandya, Chamarajnagar and Tumkur fall under this district.Installation and Cabinet presentation will be held along with launching of newservice programmes, said Suresh Ramu, pmjf, Chairman of media & publicitycommittee in the press conference today.
LionsClub has been actively involved in opening up many new eye hospitals. One suchmodern eye hospital is coming up in JP Nagar Bengaluru with a matching grant of₹ 6 crores from Lions Club International Foundation. It has undertakenprogrammes to save environment. The Club is extending its helping hand tocontrol diabetes and paediatric cancer cases. To mark the occasion, Lions Clubdistrict 317A is donating 40 toilets for girl students in schools in ruralareas under Swatch BharathAbhiyan, he added.TheInternational President of Lions International Dr Naresh Aggarwal will be thechief guest of the programme. Minister for primary and secondary education LionTanveerSait will be guest of honour. District Governor Lion G.P. Diwakar willpreside over the programme.DistrictGovernor Lion G P Diwakar and Host Committee chairman GopinathMuppiri werepresent in the press meet.
