Maharashtra gears up to host its first global investment summit

Mumbai, January 06, 2018: In a bid to facilitate investments into the state, the Government of Maharashtra in its first big economic push of the year today announced the state’s first-ever Global Investment Summit - “Magnetic Maharashtra: Convergence 2018”. The summit that aims to promote indigenous manufacturing and to provide impetus to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s flagship program ‘Make in India’ will be held from February 18 to February 20 at the MMRDA grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

paper print(002)At the curtain raiser press conference today, Hon’ble Chief Minister ShriDevendra Fadnavis unveiled the tagline #MadeForBusiness which lends into thecampaign of Magnetic Maharashtra to showcase the magnitude of the state’scurrent contribution and its readiness to provide future industrial growth. Themaiden three-day global investment summit has been conceptualized on four mainpillars of ‘Employment’, ‘Sustainability’, ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘FutureIndustries’.

Outlininghis vision for Magnetic Maharashtra: Convergence 2018, Hon’ble Chief MinisterShri Devendra Fadnavis, said “With our maiden global investment summit, we aimto strengthen Maharashtra’s position as the gateway for all industrialinvestments in India where the best minds, industries and governmentmachineries converge to co-create.”

He furtheradded, “We are focussing on building a ‘future-ready’ state that featuresconsistently in the top destinations in the world for industrial innovation andsmart manufacturing.”

The sessionalso witnessed the unveiling of smartphone application ‘Magnetic Maharashtra:Convergence 2018’ and a which will provide details ofthe summit and facilitate participants with the ease of registration. Tosupport the new age entrepreneurs in the state the summit will host competition‘Magnetic Maharashtra Start-Up’s under 30’. Judged by eminent jury, top threestart-ups will be felicitated with exciting cash prize of Rs. 50 lakhs for the winner,Rs. 30 lakhs and 20 lakhs for the first and second runners’ up.

Inauguratedby the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, MagneticMaharashtra: Convergence 2018 intends to bring together heads of States andGovernments, leaders from political and corporate world, policymakers andacademicians under one roof. The three-day summit will include interactiveseminars, panel discussions, CEO roundtables, and B2B and B2G meetings.

Speaking onthe occasion, Hon’ble Industries Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Subhash Desai,said “Today, Maharashtra contributes 15% to National GDP and is estimated togrow at 9.4% in the current fiscal. Manufacturing, which is the driving forceof Make in India contributes 21.43% to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product(GSDP). We have attracted 45.24% of the total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)received by the country in the first-half of the fiscal. Maharashtra worldwideis recognised as the finance and entertainment capital of India. With MagneticMaharashtra, we are truly on the path of making Maharashtra also the trade andmanufacturing capital of India.”

The Summitthat will showcase Maharashtra’s diversity and resources through visuallycaptivating exhibition is being conceptualised and organised by MaharashtraIndustrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) is the national partner and KPMG is the knowledge partner to the summit.
