Motherhood Hospitals to celebrate World Breastfeeding Awareness Week
Chennai, July 30, 2018: Motherhood Hospital, a leading women and children hospital, on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Awareness Week, will be hosting sessions on breastfeeding from the 1st to the 4th of August. The sessions will shed light on the value of breastfeeding for mothers as well as children. Specialists will elaborate on the tremendous health benefits for children that will aid in the protection from deadly diseases such as pneumonia, jaundice etc. The sessions will also break myths and provide answers to queries that mothers may have from the pre-natal or post-natal stage.
At the inaugural session on August 01, 2018 at 11.00 am, leading Neonatologist, Dr. Shobhana Rajendran will highlight on the importance of ‘Donating excess breast milk to milk banks’. Lactation Consultant and Child Birth Educator, Dr. Sonali Santhanam from Motherhood will host a session on ‘Making More Milk’ on August 03, 2018 at 3.00 pm. She will also host a session on ‘Getting breastfeeding off to a good start’ on August 04, 2018 at 3.00 pm.
Commenting on world breastfeeding awareness week, Dr. Sonali Santhanam, Lactation Consultant and Child Educator, Motherhood said, “Through these sessions we aim to educate the expectant mothers, on the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, ensuring a good latch and milk transfer to optimize breastfeeding in newborns. We will also be highlighting on why some of the mothers experience a drop in their milk supply when baby is of 3 months of age and what are the strategies to ensure baby is getting enough milk through the first year.”
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from August 01 – August 07, in more than 170 countries around the world. It is an international occasion to protect, promote and support breastfeeding anywhere and anytime.
