Bengaluru, February 11: Nash Cricketers emerged winners of the State level tennis ball tournament for the Kengal Cup organised by Kengal Hanumanthiah Memorial Trust bagging a cash prize of Rs one lakh.

The second place went to Jai Karnataka team who bagged a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the third place to Achievers Team of Hebbal who got a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

As many as 16 teams participated in the 8 overs limited tournament played at the Malleshwaram Grounds in Bangalore on February 9 and 10. The tournament is held in memory late Kengal Hanumanthaiah was the first elected Chief Minister of the State, who was instrumental in building Vidhana Soudha, the state Secretariat.

The prizes were distributed by former cricketer Dodda Ganesh. “Participating is more important than winning. The game should be played with a sporting spirit”, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Trust founder-president and KPCC spokesperson Kengal Shreepada Renu said that the contribution of Kengal Hanumathaiah for the development of the State and the country was vast.

He said that through this tournament he hoped to bring awareness among the generation about the contribution of Kengal Hanumathaiah to the State and country.

Mr H C Chandrashekar, Mr N Suresh, Mr K Narasimha Rao, Mr M Vishwanath and K M Manjunath participated in the prize distribution function.
