QNET partners with Lions Club to organise Free Diabetes camp On World Diabetes Day
November 14, 2018, Bangalore – QNET, Asia’s leading direct selling company organised a free diabetes camp to commemorate World Diabetes Day. Partnering with Lions Club, the camp witnessed more than 500 families from rural areas that underwent medical check-ups, including blood-glucose, retinopathy, body mass index (BMI) tests.
This camp was organised under the aegis of National Urban Health Mission which envisages to meet health care needs of the urban population with the focus on urban poor, by making available to them essential primary health care services and reducing their out of pocket expenses for treatment. The event was held at Lions Urban Family Welfare Health Center, being managed by Lions Club and BBMP. The main aim of this health camp was to provide awareness to the rural communities on managing a healthy lifestyle and food habits to counter diabetes at an early stage. The patients were educated about the incessant need to lead a normal and healthy lifestyle which includes having good food habits, regular exercise / yoga and regular health check-ups.
Apollo Sugars and Minto Hospital collaborated for this noble camp wherein Apollo Sugars were responsible for diabetes checkup of the patients and the latter took charge of retinopathy and BMI (body mass index) checkup.
The organisers arranged buses to pick up and drop facility for people from nearby slums. Post medical checkup, an interactive session on educating about diabetes and leading a healthy lifestyle was hosted by Lion Dr. N.M. Raju.
District Governor, Lions Club District 317 F, Lion Sathyanarayana Raju said, “We are delighted to associate with QNET. The approach of an on-ground activity with dedicated follow-up with the patients from underprivileged sections of the society can set the ball rolling for other medical centres to take up similar community development activities. I hope we take forward more such engagements with QNET, a play our humble role of contributing to the national health mission.”
Lion Dr. N.M. Raju, District Chairperson for Diabetic Awareness said, "QNET has always been in the forefront of lending a helping hand to the underprivileged and the needy. Our country needs more such camps to help rural communities get more information about diabetes. We feel that the patient adherence to lifestyle modifications and medication play an important role in diabetes management. Un-monitored prevalence of diabetes also results in increased risk of cardiovascular, renal, neural and visual disorders which are related to the duration of the disease. We thank QNET for being a part of many such activities which helps in community development.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nischal C., Head of Corporate Communications, QNET, India region, commented, “We are proud to partner with Lions Club who proactively reach out to the needy people, and associating with a health center which touches the lives of 25000 slum dwellers in Bangalore. We have been organising various health camps in association with Lions Club for Community Development, much in line with our organisation’s concept of a proactive approach to health and wellness. India is known as the Diabetes capital of the world with as many as 50 million people suffering from type-2 diabetes. We would like to associate with Lions Club to undertake more such activities, as part of our CSR initiatives.”
A dedicated follow up system has also been put in place for the patients who were detected with diabetes, retinopathy and other health issues. This will be a consistent process for all the patients.
B. Surender, one of the patients said,” I am delighted to come for this camp and know about the various diseases associated with lifestyle disorders. I am a daily wage employee. I go to work early morning and tend to miss breakfast. This program and session conducted by doctors helped me understand value of healthy living and not skipping any meal”.
QNET works with various NGOs and associations such as Lions Club, on community development initiatives, which also encourages active involvement of all its employees and independent representatives.
