Riders Republic Motorcycle Club supply life-saving drugs across Karnataka during Covid-19
BENGALURU, 25.04.2020 Bengaluru-based RRMC (Riders Republic Motorcycle Club), a registered motorcycle club, in association with the Bangalore City Police, will deliver critical life-saving drugs, other pharmaceutical drugs, and essentials to interiors and border areas of Karnataka and beyond, to help communities whose movement has been restricted in view of Covid-19 lockdown.
Two riders, Mohan Mallappa and Babanna, on 24th April, 2020, delivered critical cancer treatment drugs to a retired military officer in Kerala. They rode close to 700 kilometres to hand over the medicine to Kerala authorities at the Muthunga check-post. The riders had to take a detour to reach the check-post, as Nanjangud town, identified as a Covid-19 hotspot, has been shut down.
Speaking about the initiative, Dileep N Vijayadev, Joint Secretary, RRMC, said, “Our motorcycling fraternity has been at the forefront of community service. Covid-19 has brought about never-seen-before changes in our lives. We met Dr. Bheemashankar S Guled, Deputy Commissioner of Police - North East Division, Bengaluru City, recently, and volunteered for a variety of services. He was extremely accommodative and agreed to enlist our services after obtaining permission from Mr. Bhaskar Rao, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru. We are grateful to the Bengaluru police and the Government of Karnataka for giving us an opportunity to serve society in these challenging times.”
RRMC riders will deliver medicine and drugs for ailments like cancer, haemophilia, and psychiatric medication. More than 10 riders have been enlisted for this service by the police. RRMC is also raising charity within its fraternity to supply drugs for the poor and needy in remote parts of the state.
“We are blessed to have dedicated government officials, who are not just working hard at this time, but also coming up with innovative ideas to help communities in need of support. This novel idea enables systematic planning and delivery of critical care drugs across the length and breadth of Karnataka,” Dileep added.
People located in interior Karnataka and bordering districts, who need critical life saving drugs that are not available with local pharmacists, may contact 08042240048, Call Centre, Control Room, Deputy Commissioner of Police - North East Division, Bengaluru City
