Sankara Eye Hospital celebrates World Glaucoma Week with candlelight walkathon
Bengaluru, March 18, 2017 : Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru on the occasion of World Glaucoma Week 2017 (March 12 – March 18, 2017), has organized a Candle Light Walkathon on Saturday, 5:30 p.m from Sankara Eye Hospital till Marathahalli Flyover. The initiative was to create an awareness on Glaucoma – one of the leading cause of preventable blindness. Around 100 Glaucoma patients, doctors and staff of Sankara Eye Hospital have participated in the Walkathon.
Asa statistics by the Glaucoma Society of India, more than ten lakh Indians areaffected every year, the estimates would be able to reach twenty lakh by theyear 2020. Therefore, to stop glaucoma to be an epidemic an awareness about thedisease is very important. The walk by the glaucoma patients from Sankara Eye Hospitalaims to create the awareness among general public about the importance ofregular eye check ups, and understanding the risks of glaucoma.
