Skill Saathi Career Counselling Organised for National Cadet Corps
Bangalore, 1 August 2019: In a bid to motivate and build better awareness among youth on vocational education options and opportunities, as well as livelihood opportunities Skill Saathi Career Counselling Sessions have been organized under Skill India Mission for National Cadet Corps (NCC) across Delhi-NCR, at their Combined Annual Training Camps for girls’ and boys’ battalions.
The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is currently observing Kaushal Pakhwada (a fortnight with intense focus on skill advocacy from 16th – 31st July). The Skill Saathi Counselling Sessions entail Psychometric Testing and face-to-face counselling interventions at an individual-level to help aspirants know about various vocational training options and subsequent employment opportunities available.
More than 700 cadets aged 13-26 years, currently undergoing two or three-year-training at various NCC camps, have been provided career counselling. National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), an executive agency of MSDE, has been organizing such counselling campaigns at various Rozgar Melas (job fairs), Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools, Army Schools, etc. under its Skill Saathi Counselling Initiative to guide youth towards their preferred career choice based on a psychometric profiling of their aptitude and interest.
Counselling workshops are being organised by NSDC in schools and colleges with a view to expose students of schools and colleges as well as dropouts to expose them to the skill ecosystem and provide alternate/complimentary career pathways based on their aspirations and profiles. Further, in order to benefit maximum number of students, NSDC is utilising the premises of the Government schools for rendering these counseling sessions to the students.
It is felt that these counselling sessions will benefit the students and help them in selecting the correct career path and aid in their professional and personal growth basis an empirical approach of self-discovery.
The initiative aims to facilitate understanding of concepts of vocational training in New India. It also elaborates the prospects and opportunities that come with India becoming the Skill Capital of the World, resulting in socio economic growth.
