Students Make Conferencing Easier with Bot at Grace Hopper Conference India 2018

Bangalore 15.11.2018: A group of smart female engineering students from 6 different institutions have come together and developed a chatbot, which is being used by attendees at the Grace Hopper Conference India 2018 (GHCI 18), organised by AnitaB.org India. GHCI is Asia's largest gathering of women technologists. More than 5000 women from across the world are part of the conference. The conference is being held from November 14-16, 2018 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

GHCI18 Bot, it is a chatbot on Google assistant that provides all relevant information about GHCI 2018 at your fingertips from session timings and venue to speakers and topics. The chatbot can answer over 200 questions about the conference in real time.

Inspired by the mission to grow the careers of women in technology, the group approached AnitaB.org India with the intent of creating an exciting chat bot. This gave them a chance to work with an exciting technology and also provided an opportunity to contribute to the community. AnitaB.org India is delighted to have supported this passionate and bright group of women technologists, with the aim of fostering innovation and collaboration among these young minds.

Elsa Maria George, Project Lead said, “The project took about 300 hours of collective effort of students from different institutions who came together only on online communication (emails, chats and video calls). The chatbot can answer over 200 questions about GHCI18, Asia’s largest women in technology conference.”

Bhairavi Shah, one of the Developers said, “This project was us doing our bit for AnitaB.org India, an organisation already working relentlessly for women in technology. In addition to the benefit of gaining exposure and learning how such a large project can be well executed, this project gave us the added pleasure of contributing to our community of women.”
