Chennai, December 4, 2018: Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country’s second largest car manufacturer and number one exporter since inception announced the top level management changes with immediate effect. Mr. Seon Seob Kim will assume the responsibilities of ‘MD & CEO’ from Mr. Young Key Koo who is set to return to Hyundai Motor Company Head Quarters, Seoul after 3 years in India.
Mr. Y K Koo completed 3 years’ successful tenure to lead Indian operations and under his able Visionary Thought Leadership, Hyundai Motor India has achieved many new milestones making it a Market Leader and the Most Loved and Trusted Brand in India.
Mr. Y K Koo has led Hyundai Motor India to newer heights setting new benchmarks. Out of his 35 years of professional career with Hyundai Motor Company, Mr. Y K Koo had been the part of the Senior Management for long 12 Years in India with a strong understanding and orientation of Indian Auto Industry. His first stint from 1997-2001, when Hyundai established itself as a household name was with the launch of 1st generation 'SANTRO' and ‘ACCENT’ in India. He strengthened the sales and marketing operations during his second tenure from 2008-2011 and again headed the Indian operations in his 3rd tenure from November 2015 to November 2018. To make Hyundai Motor India future ready; Mr. Koo was also instrumental in elevating HMI to Regional Headquarter Status in the global operations of Hyundai Motor Company. Recognizing his unmatched leadership and efforts, Mr. Koo received the Award of 'NDTV Automotive Man of the Year' for his contribution in growth of the Indian Automobile Industry. To realize one of the visions of making Hyundai a Great Place to Work after 20 years – HMIL started the construction of state-of-the art new Sales & Marketing Corporate office in Gurugram which will be completed by 2020.
With a strong outlook towards Product and Sales Mr. Y K Koo devised strategic long term road map for Hyundai Motor India setting strong foundation for future. HMIL has achieved year on year the record domestic sales in 2016, 2017 & 2018 along with 8 Successful Products launches like premium sedan – ELANTRA & Verna, Premium SUV - All New TUCSON, Compact hatchback - GRAND i10, Compact sedan - All New XCCENT, Premium Hatchback - New 2018 ELITE i20, Compact SUV- New 2018 CRETA and what is more the comeback of the Legend - India's Favorite Family Car - the All New SANTRO. In addition, Mr. Koo streamlined the future product line from 2018-2020 with 8 products including SANTRO to further reinforce HMIL position.
Mr. Koo strengthened the India operations with focus on efficiency and smart manufacturing practices leading to the roll-out of 8-Millionth Car in years 9 months - fastest-ever in the Indian auto industry. Under his leadership, Hyundai Motor India plant received the Platinum Award for excellence consecutively from Hyundai Motor Company in 2017 & 2018 for production, efficiency, high quality and safety among all its Global subsidiaries. Mr. Y K Koo realized that the true assets of an organization are its people and started the Voluntary Innovation - 'My Place My Pride ' (MPMP) Program in 2016 to boost Safety and Employee morale. The MPMP program focuses on ‘Overall Safety', 'Enhancement of Quality and Efficiency', ‘Cost Reduction’, 'Weight Reduction ' and 'Work Place Cleanliness' and ‘Work Morale’.
During Mr. Y K Koo's third tenure as MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India received for the first time the Honor of 'Indian Manufacturer of the Year' by IMEA - Frost and Sullivan in December 2016. Hyundai Motor India also ranked No.1 in JD Power CSI survey consecutively in 2017 and 2018, and also ranked Number 2 in JD Power SSI award up from No.4 in October 2018 and No.2 in 2018 JD Power India DSWAMI (Dealer Satisfaction) Study up from No.5 and lots of quality awards in JD Power IQS for our game changer brands.
To celebrate 20 years of journey, Hyundai Motor India launched the India's most innovative and emotional campaign - Brilliant Moments leading to the blockbuster launch of the most awaited India's Favorite Family Car - The All New SANTRO which has received overwhelming response with over 40,000 bookings within 40 days of its launch.
As a firm believer in giving back to the society Mr. Koo has initiated several Corporate Social Responsibility Activities benefiting the people from Urban to Rural areas through Education, Flood relief, Plantation, Job Creation and Women Empowerment. Under his direction, Hyundai initiated Safe Move Campaign in Schools and Malls across India aimed at sensitizing children and adults to adhere to road safety measures in 2015. In line with Government of India's Clean India campaign, Mr. Koo stressed the need for keeping Indian roads clean by using Swachh Can, a portable bin by making an OEM fitment in all Hyundai cars starting March 1, 2018 – A first time initiative by any company in India.
