Toyota Kirloskar Motor joins forces with its employees to develop eco-conscious minds

Bangalore, 30th June 2018: In an endeavor to create a more sustainability society, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today conducted its fourth activity under ‘ICARE’, an employee voluntary initiative to drive eco awareness amongst school children in Bangalore city. Toyota and its employees joined forces to conceptualize various sustainable projects and other environmental activities including revamping the school façade to tree plantation drive at Government Higher Primary school, Vajjarahalli, Bangalore.

• Close to 250 employees volunteer to re-vamp a Government school as eco-friendly with impactful eco lessons to children  

• The school playground is purely built by using recycled materials reflecting the importance of every child’s personality development at school with a eco sense 

• Eco- Campaign based event organized for the first-time under ICARE platform to encourage the employees voluntarism to address eco related issues 

• Under ICARE, Toyota employees have earlier restored a Government School, facilitated a Mobile Medical Unit [MMU] and specialized health camps conducted in Ramanagara district and trained underprivileged children with fullest support to social causes 

The initiative was undertaken with the objective to improve the facilities of the Government School in a eco-friendly way, while spreading environmental consciousness to children and staff of the school. Close to 250 volunteers enthusiastically associated with 200 school children in eco painting of school building, constructing the playground using recycled materials, developing the charts on eco-education, developing kitchen garden for the school and in renovating the entire school premises to eco-friendly school. 

Staying true to TKM’s key social values of sustained community development and creating sustainability in every eco activity they do, the drive actively involved its employees aimed to enhance the understanding on the increasing environmental challenges amongst young minds and to take necessary steps to counter it as a continued eco-initiative. Children showed much enthusiasm in beautifying their school and premises in an eco-friendly manner with the volunteers. 

The outcome of the initiative was - improved school infrastructure, sustainable play area of 1000 sq ft for kids to help build better cognitive and social skills, sensitized kids and greater environmental consciousness and better hygiene levels in the school.

Project “ICARE” was inaugurated in November 2017 with the launch of Mobile Medical Unit [MMU] and specialized health camps conducted in Ramanagara district [Karnataka]. Since then, Toyota & its employees have painted the walls of the 140-year-old government school, and staged a play at Garuda Mall to create environment awareness among the public on current environmental issues such as Lake Restoration, Afforestation & Solid Waste Management. Recently, the ICARE team spent a day with the underprivileged children through games and cultural activities, and partook in cooking and gardening. 

As a responsible corporate citizen, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, over the years, has rebuilt a local residential school, constructed of water tanks in rural Bangalore benefitting the community in Ramnagara district, set-up water purification units across the nation benefitting 100,000 lives. Flagship programs such as Development of Model School, Lake Rejuvenation, Project ABCD [A Behavioral Change Demonstration] on school sanitation, Road Safety Training Programs [Toyota Safety Education Program, Safety Model School and Drivers’ Safety Training], etc have created a lasting impact. 

Under Health & Hygiene, TKM has been actively involved in construction of sanitation units in government schools and educating the schoolchildren on the usage & maintenance of sanitation units, thus bringing about a change in the holistic behavioral aspects of the children & community at large. Setting up of water purification units to provide safe drinking water to community and launch of Mobile medical unit for the sustained intervention in health care with focus on providing the basic medical equipment’s to the Primary Health Centers. Through varied CSR projects, Toyota has touched more than 11,00,000 lives.
