It was oganized in association with the Maharashtra State Government’s Textile Ministry, sponsored by Mafatlal Industries Limited, the market leader and largest producer of corporate uniforms, work wear and school uniform fabric and garments in India and supported by Bank of India as banking partner. The ultimate aim of the fair was to generate 2000 new units in Solapur by the year 2022, in the process making this city the uniform sourcing hub of India.
The Solapur Garment Manufacturers Association has not only been organizing such Fairs but also has taken the initiative to start a training centre for garment stitching where needy women are trained at no cost. Starting in July, 2017 the centre till date has trained hundreds of women who have been given jobs in various garment factories. Seeing the potential of the Solapur garment industry, Mafatlal Industries started a uniform garment manufacturing unit there.
Solapur is gaining significance for Garment trade; hence to help its promotion and expansion such international level Uniform & Garment Exhibition is being held. The uniform manufacturing industry in India has an aggregate volume of 18,000 crore out of which 10,000 crore is already catered by manufacturing Industry. However about 8,000 crore is being supplied to local schools in forms of direct which local retailers and institutions get stitched by local tailors leading to much inconvenience. Solapur is witnessing higher demand for school uniforms, kids garments, gents and ladies dresses and hence this industry is witnessing good progress in the region.
Solapur is well connected with the rest of the country via the rail and road network with the nearest airports being Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad, and it is considered the next investment destination for the setting up of garment industries in Maharashtra primarily due to the easy availability of transportation, labour and raw materials.
