Vedanta Mines Get 5 Star Rating

Bangalore, March 22, 2018: Vedanta’s A Narrain mine in Chitradurga, Karnataka was awarded the 5 Star Rating by the Ministry of Mines. Hon’ble Minister of Mines, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, presented the award to Mr. Krishna Reddy, Head- Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka at a ceremonious function held at Delhi. The mine was conferred the honour of being among the Top-3 among the 57 Five star rated mines across the country.

Receiving the award, Mr. Krishna Reddy said, “Vedanta isalways committed to sustainable mining practices. This award is testimony toour sustainability framework and further reinforces our commitment to excel andraise the bar. It has always been our effort to ensure that the socio-economicbenefits of sustainable development are widespread and positively impactstakeholders and communities around our areas of mining operations.”

The ‘star rating of mines’system aims at promoting sustainable developmental practices, which includesaddressing social impact of resettlement and rehabilitation, among others.The star rating scheme is designed to have a built-in compliancemechanism for environment and forest safeguards and help in recognizing goodperformers in the sector while encouraging all mining lease holders to strivefor excellence.
