Zoomcar launches PEDL at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore
Bangalore, January 2018: After an overwhelming response across 7 cities, Zoomcar’s bicycle sharing service today launched at IISc in Bangalore. PEDL, India’s first technology enabled cycle sharing service has forayed with an aim to provide individuals a convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly cycle sharing service for short trips around the city.
PEDLhas deployed over 100 cycles at the IISc campus,serving the local use cases for students and professors such as going fromerrand running, moving around the campus for short distance tasks. Atscale (remove this) PEDL will be present in 24 locations across thecampus. Already located in HSR Layout, Koramangala and now at IISc, PEDL willalso be available at other universities as well as other neighborhoods in Bangalorewith almost 10,000+ cycles in near future. PEDL is currently available at Re1for 30mins. The process of using a PEDL is simple - just walk up to aPEDL location, scan the QR code to unlock, pay via Paytm, and dropthe cycle off when done at any of the PEDL locations.

Speakingon the launch, Dr. Ashish Verma, (Civil Engg Department & Head,Transportation Lab) said, "The addition of smart cycle sharing system PEDL byZoomcar to IISc campus is another initiative by the institute to add adifferent flavor of green (sustainable) to an already lush green IISc campus.Such long-term policy initiatives are required not just in closed campuses likeIISc but also in Bengaluru and other Indian cities to shift travel choices ofpeople to sustainable modes of transport like cycling, walking, publictransport etc. Our Transportation Engineering Lab. at IISc intends to workclosely with the institute as well as with relevant stakeholders in Bengaluruand other Indian cities to scientifically plan and operate such cycle sharingsystems and other measures to promote sustainable transport."
PEDL cyclescome with various unique features including but not limited to customdesigned light weight alloy frames and drum brakes, anti-slip chains,airless solid tyres, and height adjustable seats. These cycles aredesigned to support 24 + months of intensive use while ensuring industry lowmaintenance costs and extremely high levels of customer satisfaction. Thecycles are built with smart locks which are easily unlocked using a QRCode. PEDL’s robust IoT stack is an extension of Zoomcar’s Cadabra IoTplatform and includes real-time GPS tracking, solar battery charging, andbuilt-in alarms. Each cycle also comes outfitted with a multipurposebasket to afford the customer greater convenience in travelling for work orleisure.
