Free Treatment for Patients Admitted to Wayanad Dr. Moopen’s Medical College
Kochi, August 01, 2024: Aster DM Healthcare extends a helping hand to the victims of the devastating Wayanad landslide, one of the worst disasters Kerala has ever witnessed. Alongside providing critical medical treatment to the injured, Aster DM Healthcare has announced a relief fund of ₹4 crore. Of this amount, ₹1.5 crore will be directly contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while ₹2.5 crore will be allocated for the rehabilitation of those who have lost their homes. Many injured individuals are receiving treatment at Dr. Moopen’s Medical College (formerly DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences), and all medical assistance will be provided free of charge, stated Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare. Medical teams from Aster Hospitals, Kerala including Aster Medcity and Aster MIMS are actively involved in the rescue mission in the disaster-affected area.
Upon hearing the news of the landslide on Tuesday morning, the doctors, nurses, and staff of Dr. Moopen’s Medical College immediately prepared for the emergency. Rescue workers swiftly began arriving with the injured at the emergency department in WIMS. To date, 173 people have been admitted, with 62 still under treatment. Seven individuals are in the intensive care unit, and 20 have undergone emergency surgery. The activities at Moopen’s Medical College are being coordinated in full cooperation with government agencies. Additional beds have been added to the wards, and more nurses have been appointed. Three forensic surgeons from Aster WIMS have been deputed at the request of the District Administration to expedite post-mortem procedures.
A group of Aster volunteers has been active in rescue operations since the first day of the disaster in Chooralmala and near Mundakkai, accompanied by a mobile medical unit. The team is distributing essential items, including clean drinking water and food, and is working alongside the National Disaster Response Force’s irreplaceable rescue operations.
Efforts are also underway to locate missing Aster employees and ensure their safe return home. Aster DM Healthcare is providing immediate support, medical facilities, and essential items to affected employees and their families, offering all possible assistance.
