Bangalore, April 10, 2026:  Canadian International School (CIS), Bangalore has completed 30 years since its establishment, marking three decades of its presence in the city’s international education landscape. Founded in 1996, the school has been part of the early expansion of international curricula in Bangalore, with milestones spanning academic programmes, technology integration, and sustainability initiatives.

The school’s trajectory has been marked by a series of early initiatives, with it’s achievements including being the first IBDP school in Bangalore, the first 1:1 iPad school in South India, the first school in India to operate entirely on solar power, and earned the distinction of being the first Apple Distinguished School in India, by Apple Inc., for their innovation and integration of technology in education.

CIS also established the Bangalore Association of International Schools Activities and Sports Council (BAASC), contributing to the development of interschool athletics and activities. Today, CIS hosts a community representing over 40 nationalities, complemented by student-led efforts such as the DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging) club, where students work to build awareness and promote inclusivity on campus and in the community.

To mark the occasion, the campus hosted a range of activities, bringing together students and faculty from diverse cultural backgrounds, highlighting the school’s sense of community and shared experience. The gathering also served as a moment to reflect on the people and values that have shaped the school over the years.

Looking back on the school’s 30-year journey, Ms. Shweta Sastri, Managing Director, Canadian International School, emphasized the role of the community in achieving this milestone. “The school would not have reached these milestones if it weren’t for the people that work hard for the school and the students each and every day. This celebration motivates everyone to strive to continue growing and improving. We keep our mission in mind when we come up with new ideas to better our school in any capacity that we can, whether it is in sustainability efforts or the curriculum”

Community engagement remains an ongoing focus. Recent activities have included on-campus gardening and composting initiatives. In a recent student-led initiative, students raised over ₹26 lakh to support children in rural Karnataka by providing kits that included upcycled footwear, study mats, and school bags. The campaign exceeded its target, reaching 120% of its goal with contributions from 853 supporters.

Dr. Ted Mockrish, Head of School, Canadian International School said, “At CIS, we make our future by building on our past, adapting to new needs, evolving, and continuing to work towards our Vision, Mission, and Core Values. Our community is shaped by those who have been part of this journey and those who continue to join it. As we step into our journey ahead, sustainability, technology, and experiential learning remain key areas of focus.”

Building on its legacy, Canadian International School, Bangalore, continues to empower students to become responsible, compassionate, and forward-thinking individuals, while sustaining a welcoming and resilient community for years to come. CIS places students at the centre of learning, creating opportunities to be reflective, adaptive, and inclusive that leads them to become socially responsible and dedicated voices for positive change.
