Bengaluru, Oct 14: TriMobility team from Chennai has secured the first place in the “Bengaluru Last Mile Challenge” hackathon, a student-run competition to study and provide technical advice on the city’s traffic congestion.
The hackathon was organized by the Centre for Data for Public Good (CDPG) to analyse the data of movements of BMTC buses and autos for a month and suggest solutions. BMTC, Namma Yatri and Maruti Automobiles co-sponsored this event.
TriMobility bagged the cash prize of ₹2.5 lakh. The Bengaluru Vega team from Aligarh Muslim University secured the second place and received a prize of ₹1.5 lakh. Consolation prizes of ₹25,000 each were awarded to IISc’s Team A, Dijkstra and WorkFromTraffic teams from RV University, Bangalore.
BMTC’s IT Director P. Shilpa, Namma Yatri’s Murali Ramanath, and Maruti Suzuki’s AVP of Data and AI Division Aditya presented the awards to the winners.
The hackathon was held as a part of the third edition of the two-day seminar on “Data for Public Good,” organized by CDPG.
Earlier, while delivering the key note address, S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, said, “the word ‘data’ is often related with the idea of misuse. However, data and technology can bring positive changes in society. Coordination between educational institutions, technology companies, and the government is essential for this”
V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India, said, “There must be accountability in data exchange. We need to bring innovation in information sharing across key sectors such as urban development, agriculture, geospatial services, healthcare etc.”
The two-day seminar being held at IISc’s J.N. Tata Auditorium will conclude tomorrow (Wednesday), with participation of experts from India and abroad.
