Heravanadu, Kodagu: Rani HP, a resident of Heravanadu village in Coorg, has become a symbol of women’s empowerment in the region. Rani, a single mother of three, transformed her 8094 square meter plot of land into a flourishing coffee plantation after her husband’s passing.
From Hardship to Success: Rani’s journey began with working as a daily wage laborer. With support from the Dharmasthala Sangha (SSG), she dedicated over two decades to nurturing her land. Her hard work and expertise in coffee cultivation paid off, allowing her to command a respectable price for her beans.
Collaboration for Empowerment: Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation’s Unnati coffee project, and ISWAR, an NGO, recognized Rani’s dedication and provided crucial assistance. This included specialized training, modern farming techniques, and sustainable practices for Rani and other farmers in Heravanadu. Rani’s story exemplifies the success of Coca-Cola India’s #SheTheDifference campaign, which aims to empower rural women farmers.
Leadership and Legacy: Rani’s leadership qualities were recognized when she was appointed as a board director for the Madikeri Highlands Farmers Producers Company Limited (FPO) launched by ISWAR. Today, Rani manages not only her thriving plantation but also a small coffee shop. Her success inspires others, including her son Raghu who now manages the plantation and actively participates in the FPO.
Rani’s story highlights the power of community support and resilience in overcoming adversity. It serves as an inspiration for women entrepreneurs in rural areas, showcasing how dedication can lead to success.
