Bengaluru, January 26th, 2024: The inaugural edition of the SFA Championships in Bengaluru concluded with immense excitement and achievements, showcasing the outstanding talent of school athletes. The prestigious title of the ‘Number One School in Sports’ was claimed by Delhi Public School, Bangalore East, securing an impressive tally of 25 gold, 19 silver, and 24 bronze medals. The 1st runner-up position was secured by Delhi Public School, Electronic City school, adding to the glory of the Championships. The second runner-up award was clinched by Greenwood High, Bannerghatta (ICSE) school, highlighting the fierce competition among the top schools.

Ritu Pathik, Executive Director, SAI Excellence Center, Bengaluru, expressed, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the SFA Championships for their dedicated efforts in fostering sporting talent. Excellence of athletes who have won podium positions in multi-sports, are recognised with the titles.of “Golden Girl” and “Golden Boy”. At the inaugural edition of SFA Championships in Bengaluru, the coveted ‘Golden Girl’ title was shared between Veeksha Kandual, from The Cambridge International School who secured Gold in Athletics (100m) and Skating InLine (200m) and Dhaanvi Dechamma from New Horizon Public School who won Gold in Athletics (100m and 50m) and Tennis (Singles). While Gagandeep Chethan from Delhi Public School, Electronic City was awarded the ‘Golden Boy’, who displayed outstanding performance with gold in Skating InLine (1000m), as well as in Basketball.
Harmilan Kaur Bains, a record holder in 1500mt at the Asian Games, 2022 Hangzhou, joined in to encourage the athletes at the Closing Ceremony of the SFA Championships. She said, “The SFA Championships epitomize a stage where young talent can express their love for sports. I believe the Championships serve as an exceptional platform for emerging athletes, enabling them to enhance their skills and compete at elevated levels. To all the future champions – I extend my heartfelt best wishes, and may this championship be a significant stride towards accomplishing greater feats in your athletic journey”.
The Bengaluru edition of the SFA Championships witnessed an impressive participation of 12,000 athletes from 450 schools engaging in thrilling matches across various sports. The top sports that captivated the audience included football, athletics, badminton, basketball, and kabaddi. The championship showcased a balanced participation, with 69% male athletes and 31% female athletes contributing to the vibrant sporting atmosphere.
The success of the 1st edition of the SFA Championships in Bengaluru reflects the commitment and dedication of young athletes, schools, support from the venues and infrastructure teams, in promoting sports and fostering a spirit of healthy competition. As the city bids farewell to this edition, it looks forward to future editions that will continue to inspire and celebrate the sporting spirit of its youth.
