BENGALURU, July 06, 2026 – Godrej Pet Care (GPC), a subsidiary of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (GCPL), has announced its strategic foray into four major Southern states with the launch of its scientifically formulated pet food brand, Godrej Ninja. Following an encouraging initial market response in Tamil Nadu, the brand is now expanding into Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala. This move aims to deliver high-quality, gut-health-focused nutrition to a rapidly growing community of pet parents, marking a major milestone in GPC’s ambition to build a robust pan-India presence.
The Indian pet care industry is an emerging “sunrise” market currently valued at ₹6,000 crore, with pet food constituting ₹5,000 crore of the total. While pet ownership is rising, commercial adoption remains low. Currently, only about 10% of Indians own a pet, and among them, a mere 10% feed packaged food—doing so only 40% of the time. This leaves India’s commercial calorie conversion rate at just 5%. For context, China held a similar profile 15 years ago but has since advanced to 20% pet ownership with a 25% calorie conversion rate, demonstrating the massive double-digit growth potential awaiting the Indian market over the coming decades.
The South Indian pet food market represents an estimated ₹1,800–2,000 crore opportunity. Karnataka stands as the largest regional market, contributing the highest national sales share at 15%. It is followed by Andhra Pradesh & Telangana (8%), Tamil Nadu (8%), and Kerala (5%).

Nitin Jain, Chief Operating Officer of Godrej Pet Care, highlighted the strategic importance of the region:
“South India is a key growth driver for the country’s pet care industry. Godrej Pet Care is democratizing the category by offering superior quality products at a much more affordable price point than what is currently available. Backed by a ₹500 crore investment in pet care over the next few years, we are targeting rapid expansion across the South.”
Jain further emphasized that Bengaluru represents the most mature market in the region, boasting a 25% higher spending average on pet food than any other Indian city.
Formed in 2024, Godrej Pet Care unites the animal nutrition expertise of Godrej Agrovet with the powerful brand-building and distribution capabilities of GCPL. Developed and tested locally at the Nadir Godrej Centre for Animal Research & Development, Godrej Ninja addresses severe nutritional gaps common in home-cooked diets.
Dr. Ashok Pattanaik, Head of R&D at Godrej Pet Care and former Principal Scientist at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, noted that nearly 70% of a dog’s immune system resides in its gut, and gastrointestinal distress accounts for roughly 30% of all veterinary visits.
To combat this, Godrej Ninja features 37 balanced nutrients alongside a proprietary 3P Blend:
- Probiotics: To introduce beneficial gut bacteria.
- Prebiotics: To nourish existing healthy microbes.
- Polyphenols: Plant-derived antioxidants to boost overall immunity.
Accessible Pricing and Availability
To ensure wide accessibility, Godrej Ninja has introduced highly competitive pricing tiers for both puppy and adult segments:

- Puppy Variants: 100g at ₹20 | 1kg at ₹219 | 3kg at ₹549
Through this launch, Godrej Pet Care reinforces its commitment to delivering complete, balanced, and science-led Indian-made nutrition directly to everyday pet households.
