Over 250 volunteers covered a stretch of 30 Kms between Kavadahalli to Malai Mahadeshwara Hills collecting over 5 tonnes of plastic and other waste
Ramanagara, July 25, 2021- Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, one of the leading FMCG companies of India, today successfully organised a plastic waste collection drive in Kollegal district, Karnataka as part of its Plastic Waste Management initiative. The cleanliness drive undertaken in partnership with Forest Department and the Karnataka Pollution Control Board was conducted in a 30 Km forest area extending from Kavadahalli to Malai Mahadeshwara Hills. The day long drive saw active participation from over 250 volunteers from various corporate houses including HCCB as well as members of the government and local community.
Senior Govt. functionaries including Shri. Yedukondalu V – IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Malai Mahadeshwara Wild Life Division, Kollegal, Dr. Niranjan – Senior Environment Officer, Pollution Control Board, Mysore Division and Shri Raghuram – Environment Officer, Pollution Control Board, Chamrajnagar Dist, were present at the location encouraging the volunteers. HCCB provided infrastructural support along with refreshments to the participants.
HCCB has been a pioneer when it comes to plastic waste management and collection and had earlier in the year launched a unique initiative ‘Plastic Lao Thaila Pao’ where they distributed jute bags in exchange of plastic waste. During this drive, the volunteers collected pet bottles and other plastic waste from the shoulder level of the road, which resulted in a total collection of 5 tonnes of plastic.
Speaking about the initiative, Kamlesh Kumar Sharma, Chief Communications Officer, HCCB said, “Responsible recycling of plastic waste can be made possible if people actively collaborate and work towards ensuring zero tolerance to littering and responsible disposal of the waste generated. Through our initiatives all we are trying is to communicate is that plastics have an inherent value and can be recycled and that everyone has a role to play. We are excited to see the response and enthusiasm of the volunteers and are hopeful that more people will come forward to help address the issue of plastic waste management in our country.”
