Indian Natural Stone Industry Poised for Growth at STONA 2025 Amidst Challenges - thisweekindia

Bengaluru, February 7, 2025 – The Indian natural stone industry, a significant contributor to the nation’s economy and cultural heritage, is preparing for STONA 2025, India’s premier international stone exhibition. The event will take place at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Tumkur Road. While the industry faces challenges such as regulatory hurdles, supply chain disruptions, and international competition, STONA 2025 offers a platform for growth and collaboration.

“STONA 2025 will bring together industry stakeholders from around the globe,” said Krishna Prasad, President of the Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry (FIGSI). “This event will showcase India’s rich natural stone resources and facilitate connections for businesses to thrive.”

Industry Challenges and FIGSI’s Advocacy

The Indian natural stone industry is currently navigating raw material shortages, regulatory bottlenecks, and competition from artificial materials. FIGSI is actively advocating for policy reforms, including extending quarry leases to 50 years with guaranteed renewals, streamlining royalty rates, and reducing the GST on raw blocks and slabs. “We believe a ‘One Nation One Mineral One Policy’ is crucial for unlocking the industry’s full potential and boosting India’s economic growth,” stated Mr. Prasad.

Addressing Skill Gaps and Technological Advancement

To combat the shortage of skilled labor, FIGSI has established two state-of-the-art training centers in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Jaipur, Rajasthan. “We are dedicated to closing the skills gap and ensuring a pipeline of qualified professionals for the industry,” added Mr. Prasad.
