Kanyathon 2026 India’s Premier Student-Led Charity Run Expands to Three Cities - thisweekindia

BENGALURU, March 5, 2026 — Registration is now officially open for the 15th edition of Kanyathon, India’s largest charity run organized entirely by students. This year, the movement expands its footprint to Bengaluru, Karjat, and Jammu, aiming to mobilize over 4,000 participants to support girl child empowerment and education.

From a Student Initiative to a National Movement

What began in 2011 with 400 runners has evolved into a powerhouse of social impact. Managed by students from IFIM Institutions, JAGSoM, and Vijaybhoomi University, Kanyathon (a blend of Kanya for girl child and Marathon) bridges the gap between fitness and philanthropy. The 2026 edition is proudly endorsed by the Ministry of Sports as part of the Fit India Movement.

“Kanyathon isn’t just a run; it is a movement,” says Mrs. Kalpana Padode, Governing Board Member at Vijaybhoomi University. “When students take ownership of social change, they raise aspirations. Every step ensures that no girl’s dream is limited by her circumstances.”

Real Impact: By the Numbers

The proceeds from Kanyathon 2026 directly fund life-changing interventions for girls from high-risk and economically disadvantaged backgrounds:

  • 1,000+ Students Impacted: Through nine Kanyathon Shiksha Kendras (KSKs) in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
  • Specialized Support: Funding the education of 20 daughters of sex workers from Mumbai and Pune, breaking intergenerational cycles of vulnerability.
  • Infrastructure & Health: Building computer labs, improving sanitation, and providing menstrual hygiene programs to increase school retention.
  • Nutrition: Partnering with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide mid-day meals.

What’s New in 2026?

For the first time, the event will debut in Jammu, supported by Shri Atal Dulloo (Chief Secretary of J&K) and Shri Hari Ranjan Rao (Secretary, Department of Sports).

Event Categories include:

  • Timed Runs: 5 km and 10 km professional circuits.
  • Community Walks: 3 km walkathons and family runs.
  • Digital Engagement: Fitness activities and e-gaming competitions.

Organizers are inviting corporate partners to contribute through CSR funding, sponsorships, and employee engagement. These contributions are vital for scaling digital infrastructure and providing higher education scholarships to meritorious girls.
