When children can learn from children and adults from children, it is magic at work.
That’s what KIDIGALU, a Kannada children’s movie promises.
And no kidding. KIDIGALU comes with indisputable pedigree:
It was selected to be screened at the International film festival for children, Iran in 2020, and the London Liftoff Sessions, 2020.
KIDIGALU is yet to be screened in theatres yet due to Covid-19. But KS Ramesh, its maker, has decided to turn the adversity into an opportunity by taking the film directly to schools across Karnataka.
A children’s movie to be screened in schools is a no-brainer. But more than fun, it’s packed with a slew of life lessons, told by, you guessed it, children. That’s the real magic in Kidigalu, literally and figuratively.
A slice of life kind of movie, KIDIGALU tells you the story of small town children spending their summer learning music from a magician in scenic and splendid Kalasa in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, a tourist’s delight. The children then go on to entertain the natives with their magic shows spreading joy all-round, and charging a fee for the same. Slowly, the fund grows big enough to build a Temple of Happiness.
KIDIGALU meaning ‘sparks’ has sparked off a new trend in Sandalwood – taking child artistes facing the camera for the first time – but thanks to an acting and magic workshop, the young actors do sparkle on screen.
KIDIGALU uses magic and the innocence of children to spread the universal message of happiness, secularism, preserving and protecting our environment, helping friends, staying positive and how good hobbies can transform one’s life.
