Mr. Mahantesh GK was appointed as a part of the BCCI special committee earlier this week spoke to TWI in an exclusive interview. Mr. Mahantesh is excited about his new role with the BCCI.
Since 2010 Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) is Incharge of cricket for the blind in the country. Mr. Mahantesh one of the founders and the current president of CABI is leading them from the front.
“Before the year 2010, the cricket for the blind was not organized, unlike today. We have national tournaments in which 30 states and union territories teams participate. We are also conducting 2nd Women’s national cricket tournament in which 18 teams have registered.” said Mr. Mahantesh.
He shared his vision for an IPL model for blind cricket which will give an opportunity for youngsters to earn and make it big in life. He thanked BCCI for recognizing the talents and giving blind cricket the platform they deserve.
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” This quote by Hellen Keller describes the journey of Mr. Mahantesh. Before 2012 there were 0 international trophies in the cabinet of CABI and by the end of 2020, they had 2 T20 world cups and 2 ODI world cups.
