Minal is a proud Indian Australian – Daughter of Joseph and Muriel Menezes, born in Mangalore and raised in Bangalore. She recently was crowned Mrs Australia International 2023. The pageant had contestants represent various states of Australia, Minal made it to the top 11 and went on to receiving the crown on June 3rd in Sydney. The event was hosted and organised by Beauty n Brains Australia, an organisation that dedicated to empowering and inspiring women to achieve their full potential through education, self-development, and entrepreneurship.
Below is Minal’s journey to receiving the Mrs Australia International Crown.
As a little girl I remember being enamoured watching two outstanding Indian women, Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai, bring glory to the nation by winning the Miss Universe and Miss World title the same year. Hiding in my room I would enact receiving a crown and doing the walk and wave . Little did I know that the young girls dream would come true, that too in the beautiful country of Australia!
Our Australian Journey began when I moved along with her husband George and my older son Liam to Sydney in 2009 and I soon became pregnant with my second son Evan. This wonderful nation gave me the opportunity to pursue my passion, when I received a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Genetics from Sydney University and had a rewarding career as a scientist for 10 years. Seeking a change in career I went on to work for the amazing Australian company Cochlear which transforms people life my giving them the gift of hearing. Somewhere in there I developed a passion for fitness and seeing how it helped me deal with anxiety I wanted to help and educate other parents and went ahead and got certified as a personal trainer and started my own business. This allowed me to provide parents specially mother like me tools and resources to live their best lives
Then came along Mrs. Australia International led by the Beauty and Brains Australia which gave us women a journey of transformation and self-growth. The platform helped us women from different walks of life embrace our beauty, value, ethnicity, stand tall & confident and represent this amazing nation.
Sometimes, we push our dreams aside and get so used to saying, ‘I’ll get to sometime later’, but the time is now. I knew it was time to chase mine!
I now have a powerful platform through The Mrs Australia International Title and Beauty n Brains Australia and to share my advocacy ‘Empower Parents Enhance Lives’ an initiative to support the mental health of Parents raising children with special needs and rare diseases.
