BENGALURU, February 10, 2026 – Narayana Health has announced the expansion of Udaan, its flagship initiative dedicated to building a robust healthcare workforce by supporting meritorious students from economically modest backgrounds. By providing financial aid and structured mentorship, the program enables talented youth to secure seats in government medical, nursing, and paramedical institutions.
During a felicitation ceremony held today, Dr. Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, met with the latest cohort of NEET scholars and MBBS beneficiaries. Many of these students are set to become the first-generation healthcare professionals in their families.
Addressing the Rural Healthcare Divide
While India’s official doctor-to-population ratio stands at 1:811, the figure remains deceptive. In many rural and underserved regions, the ratio plummets to as low as 1:2,700. Udaan directly targets this imbalance by empowering students from these very communities to enter the medical field.
“India’s healthcare future depends on narrowing the gap between the number of doctors and the patients who need care,” said Dr. Devi Shetty. “When these students serve regions where access is limited, the impact extends far beyond individual success—it strengthens the entire national ecosystem.”
Key Impacts of the Udaan Initiative:
- Access to Education: Financial and academic support for government college placements.
- Diverse Workforce: Focus on nursing, paramedical, and medical careers for underserved youth.
- Systemic Strength: Long-term improvement of healthcare availability in rural India.
The event highlighted the program’s role in transforming academic potential into sustainable careers. By fostering a new generation of medical professionals, Narayana Health continues its commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to every corner of the country.
