Students Unite in a Road Show to #BeatPlasticPollution on World Environment Day - thisweekindia

Bangalore, Monday, 5th June 2023 – Today, as the world comes together to celebrate World Environment Day, the global community shines a spotlight on the urgent need to “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Recognizing the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our environment, this year’s theme emphasizes the critical actions required to address and mitigate the challenges posed by plastic waste.

According to United Nations Environment Programme, approximately 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced since the 1950s and every year, around 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enters the oceans. Also, only 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. As per Ellen MacArthur Foundation, should this trend continue it is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by weight if current pollution trends continue.

This widespread pollution has severe consequences for both the environment and human health, making it imperative for us to take immediate and concerted action.

In honour of World Environment Day and its theme, #BeatPlasticPollution,” Creaa Academy for Learning” organized a roadshow to raise awareness about the urgent need to tackle plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices. The roadshow witnessed active participation from over 200 students across grades 1 to grades 10.

Dr.Usha Vasanth, Founder and Director, Creaa Academy for Learning, Bangalore, said, “ We believe that as the leaders of tomorrow, it is essential for our students to act and be actively involved in protecting our environment.” She further added that “Through this roadshow, students of CREAA Academy for Learning are taking a stand against plastic pollution on this World Environment Day. We believe in the power of education, awareness, and collective action to beat plastic pollution and pave the way for a cleaner, greener future. We want our students to inspire change, ignite passion, and make a positive impact on our environment, one step at a time.”

The roadshow stretching for over 2 km was both educational and interactive. Students designed interactive exhibits, displays, and activities that highlighted the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and provided practical solutions.

#BeatPlasticPollution” serves as a powerful reminder that every individual’s actions count in the fight against plastic pollution. Together, we have the power to create a sustainable future by reducing plastic waste, protecting our environment, and safeguarding the well-being of future generations. “On this World Environment Day, let us unite under the shared vision of a cleaner, greener planet. By committing to beat plastic pollution, we can pave the way for a more sustainable world for all.
