Belenus Champion Hospital teams up with TREDASarjapur by organising a marathon to promote Mental health awareness.
Bengaluru March 02, 2023: Belenus Champion Hospital, Sarjapur and Treatment Rehabilitation and Education of Drug Abuse (TREDA), Sarjapur teamed up and organised a marathon to spread Mental health awareness. The marathon was flagged off by Dr. Nataraj HM, Sr Consultant- HOD Dept of Orthopaedics, Belenus Champion Hospital at Government Public Ground next to Krupanidhi Nursing College, Gunjur.
As per an estimate reported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), out of every eight individuals in the world suffers from mental disorder. This constituted a staggering 15 percent of all of the world’s disease burden. Mental health is very prevalent in our society and the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic has only worsened the situation.
The event witnessed a participation of 600 marathon runners along with 500 other participants. The marathon runners choose to be mental health warriors who are determined to control both mental and physical health while also breaking barriers around the stigma associated with mental health in Indian society.
While addressing the crowd, Dr. Lingaraju G, General Manager TREDA said,” There is an urgent need to address the mental health crisis in the country with utmost urgency and prudence. There is a need to increase awareness, sensitisation and emphasis on laws, schemes, policies and government programs to the citizens”.
Dr. Manjunath H., founder of Belenus Champion Hospital said, “the marathon was organised as a part of our efforts to spread awareness about mental health among the people. Through the marathon, we aim to educate others about running for mental health, raise mental health awareness and provide engagement to others.
He further added, “Running is a great way to alleviate depression, relieve stress and lower blood pressure. We choose this platform to promote exercise while also raising awareness for mental health initiatives”.
The organisers also arranged a mela along with the marathon which had various food stalls, clothing stores and accessories for participants and other outsiders. There was a kids play area set up for children.
